Smile More - Gen X Reader

A/N: Again, I am so sorry that updates have been slowed. If you guys read my last chapter you would know some of the reason. I am still quite tired and worn out but I still want to write. Also, this chapter is kind of reminded of me. I've got a lot of energy but I'm actually very insecure of my smile. My friend who does read this, probably doesn't know or doesn't realise but I do hide my a lot more than necessary. Anyways, enjoy.

Y/N's Pov
I was hanging with my friend, laughing at a joke when i covered my mouth as i laughed.

It was something that was a more subconscious reaction.

I noticed it when i started being more self conscious about it.

It was something that i knew was dumb but i couldnt control.

I just felt self conscious. But no one's noticed. Or if they did, they didn't feel the need to openly speak about it.

Soon, class had ended and I went off to meet up with my lunch buddy, Gen.

How we became lunch buddies was a weird story.

It was just us hanging on the rooftop but we did it every day.

So we were lunch buddies. Childish i know but I cant help it.

Gen and I sat down and Gen gave me a keychain.

I covered my mouth and smiled at it.

"Thanks. You didn't have to." I said.

"I found it necessary. Plus i thought you might like it." Gen said.

"Thanks." I said, covering my mouth and smiling at him.

"Why do you do that?" Gen asked.

"Do what?" I asked.

"Cover your mouth when you smile?" Gen asked.

"I'm self conscious of it. And you're not any better, its not like you smile all too much." I said, as I eat my lunch.

"Don't be insecure about anything. No one's opinions should change you." Gen said.

"Yeah. Maybe if you'll smile, i will too." I joked as I continued to eat my lunch.

Little did I know, that joke would be taken to reality.

*a week later*

Gen's Pov
It's been a week since Y/N and I talked.

I've been looking at her a lot to see if she'll smile.

But I didn't ever get a time to see her smile without covering her mouth.

"Y/N, are you doing anything tonight?" I asked.

"No. Why?" Y/N questioned.

"Wanted to see if you wanted to come somewhere with me." I said.

Sure." Y/N said.

"Cool. I'll get you from your house. Make sure to wear something warm as it will be cold." I said.

I walked off to my class as I was lost in my thoughts.

Soon enough the day had ended and it was around 6 in the evening.

It was getting closer to night, so it was perfect.

I walked to Y/N's house, wearing a large jacket because it was cold.

I also had a bag with me.

I knocked on her door and waited.

The door opened and there stood Y/N.

"Ready to go?" I asked.

"Yeah." Y/N said, smiling while covering her mouth again.

I inaudibly sighed again, as she had done it again.

"Let's go." I said.

Y/N and I walked to a park and we went to an empty patch of grass.

I opened the bag I had and pulled out a blanket and some food.

Y/N just stood there watching.

Once i was done, I sat down, grabbed her hand and pulled her to sit down.

"Why did you do all this?" Y/N asked.

"You seemed to need to take it easy and it was a good opportunity to ask you on a date." I said.

"A date? This is a date. You consider this a date?" Y/N questioned.

"Yes." I said.

"Thanks Gen." Y/N said.

"Let's eat." I said.

Y/N and I ate as we talked a bit.

"So, there's obviously more to this than just the picnic." Y/N said.

"Look up." I said.

We both looked up and we saw the stars at night.

"Its so beautiful." Y/N said.

"Yeah. I come here a lot. The night sky is amazing. I didn't know where to take you for our date so i thought of this." I said, smiling.

I looked over at Y/N and saw her smiling at me. Without covering her face.

"I finally got to see you smile." I said.

"And I did too. You should smile more." Y/N said.

"You look cute when smiling." I said.

I saw Y/N go red a little.

"Thanks." Y/N said.

I smiled a bit more and pulled her towards me to hug her properly.

"You don't need to be so self conscious. You're beautiful every way." I said.

Y/N hugged me too in reply.

And from that day, both Y/N and I smiled more often.
