Memories And Promises - Ceylan X Reader

Y/N's Pov

There was a lot of things that a person can hold onto.

Whether they're physical or mental.

It made it easier to live life that way.

I was walking through a forest that I used to play in.

The same forest where i had most of my memories play out.

The same forest where I made a bunch of promises with my best friend.

>flashback<

"Hey, Ceylan!" My six year old yelled out.

"Yeah?" Ceylan asked.

"Promise that when we get older, you will marry me," I stated.

"What? Why are you thinking about that?" Ceylan asked.

"Promise me!" I stated, holding my pinky out.

"Sure. I promise we'll get married when we're older." Ceylan promised, linking his pinky with mine.

I smiled at him.

"Yay," I said.

Now that i think about it, it was a bit absurd since i was two years younger than him and we made a promise based on my stubbornness.

But it still made me smile that he would do that for me.

Even when I was a naive little child.

I turned and saw two bracelets hanging from a tree.

*you're in the third grade. Ceylan is in the fifth*

Ceylan and I were walking through the forest, while I was looking down feeling worse than i usually did.

"Hey Y/N, what's wrong?" Ceylan asked as he ruffled my hair.

"Well, I know you haven't been hanging around lately and I just feel like you won't be my friend anymore," I said.

"Hey, don't think like that. We'll always be friends. I've just gotten more busy with school. I'll be busier in the future too so don't worry. We're still going to be friends." Ceylan said.

"Promise?" I questioned as I held out my pinky.

"Yeah, I promise," Ceylan said, wrapping his pinky around mine.

I smiled.

"Now let's get home," Ceylan said.

I nodded as I fidgeted with my bracelet.

I smiled as I remembered it and noticed a small first aid kit hidden in the tree.

*you're in 7th grade. Ceylan is 9th grade*

I had just managed to escape being physically bullied with bruises and cuts.

I was hiding behind a tree in my favourite forest and sat down, crying.

"Hey Y/N, what's wrong?" I heard someone ask.

I knew it was Ceylan.

He hugged me and calmed me down before i explained everything.

He bandaged my hands with bandages he kept because I would trip a lot.

"I will protect you now," Ceylan said, and I could feel his gaze on me.

I kept looking at the ground.

Soon i felt someone link their pinky with mine.

"I promise," Ceylan said.

I nodded as I hugged him.

I sighed as I went over to a tree and ran my fingers over a carving.

I smiled sadly.

*you're 21 and Ceylan is 23*

"Hey, Ceylan?" I called.

"Yeah," Ceylan answered as he continued to carve into a tree.

"Will you continue to love me?" I asked.

"Of course I will," Ceylan said.

I smiled.

"Okay," I said as I stood next to Ceylan.

'Y/N + Ceylan forever' was carved into the tree.

I smiled when I felt a pinky link with mine.

"I promise," Ceylan said, which made me smile more.

All these memories were made in this forest.

And I loved them.

But unfortunately, it's harder to keep promises.

Ceylan stopped protecting me from danger and bullies.

That was obvious due to the multiple cuts and bruises that littered my body.

Ceylan stopped being my friend.

That was obvious due to the lack of contact we've had.

Ceylan stopped loving me.

That was obvious when he started loving someone else.

"Hey Y/N! Hurry up, it's about to start soon." Beni called out to me and I nodded.

And most of all, Ceylan never married me.

I am 27 and about to go watch Ceylan get married to someone he loved.

Someone that wasn't me.

But it was okay.

With all those empty promises, came memories that I could not forget.
