Reader insert! Shinsou breaks up with you, yet you don't know why. You break yourself over it, wondering why you weren't good enough...
You and Shinsou have been dating for a few months now and everything has been amazing so far! The two of you go on the most silly yet romantic dates and Shinsou sometimes stays the weekend and you have movie marathons. Yep, things are going great! That was up until those heavy few words fell upon you after school.
"We need to talk"
You frowned, following him towards the back of the school to talk. Your dad would work overtime anyway and the two of you came here a lot after school was over to wait until he was done. But now there wasn't the usual light air between you. Now the air was heavy, filled with build up pressure, ready to burst. What you didn't know was the fact people had been talking about your relationship behind your back.
That people had been pestering Shinsou about it, stating he wasn't good enough for a girl like you, or anyone in general. That the two of you didn't match at all. That he didn't deserve the happiness you brought. It put a lot of weight on his shoulders, a lot of pressure on his soul. And it so happens to be Shinsou is a person that's easily influenced by what other people think of him. He cared about his image a lot and if his image hurt yours...
"What did you wanna talk about Oshi?" you asked, forcing a smile.
"Well, uhm, I-I've been thinking..." he sighed.
"Dangerous" you chuckled, making him roll his eyes with a small smile.
"Yeah, I know" he smiled, before becoming serious again. He stared down at your intertwined hands and but his lip. You recognized that nervous tik out of a thousand. Something was on his mind...
"This is serious, isn't it?"
It was silent for a few heavy seconds before Hitoshi started speaking again.
"(Y/n)... I've been thinking about our relationship a-and... And...do you really think we're a good match? That we'll last?"
"W-what..?" you breathed. What was he talking about?! Everything was going just fine, wasn't it? Did he feel differently about things? Why didn't he communicate about things he doesn't feel good about? I mean, you can't know what goes wrong on his side if he doesn't talk to you about it...
"Everyone else can see it too (Y/n)... I-I... I don't think this will work out"
"Y-you're... You're breaking up with me? Is that what you're saying?" you asked in a whisper. Tears were pressing in your eyes and your voice ended in a tremble. Why? You were so confused. He never said anything about doubting the relation and he was the one who asked you out! You chose him! You really like him and you thought he likes you too but... But...
"W-why..?"
Tears were streaming down your face, making you sob as he pulled his hand away from you, on the verge of tears of well. He wasn't looking at you. This was probably even harder on him, because he never really wanted to break up with you. Yet you don't know that.
"What..? I-I don't understand-"
"There's nothing to understand" he muttered, standing up and putting his hands in his pockets, his back towards you so you wouldn't see his tear stained face.
"I'm ending our relationship here. B-bye (Y/n)"
With that he left. He just left! You broke down completely, wailing your eyes out as the purple head did the same, crying as he walked back home. After that the two of you didn't even speak to each other anymore. It was like Hitoshi completely vanished from your life, even though he was always on your mind. He wasn't there on movie Friday's. He wasn't there in the morning, drinking coffee with your dad as they made breakfast. The two of you didn't walk home anymore, didn't hang out at all.
It was like he vanished completely...
But you know that's not true, not when you see him walking somewhere in the background at school every now and then. Not when your classes overlap and you train together every now and then. The both of you avoid each other and in public you seem fine with the harsh reality. Your friends had been concerned but you assured them it was okay and that you'd move on from the heartbreak. Ha. Move on. You were a complete and utter mess behind closed doors.
Constantly questioning yourself. Why? What went wrong? Why did he lost interest in you? Was it you or was it him? And if it was you, what? What about you was so repelling he broke up with you out of the blue? Was it something you said? Or did? Or maybe a certain gesture? You wanted answers! It wouldn't heal your broken heart, neither would it dry your tears, yet it would bring at least a little bit of closure... But no. Hitoshi refused to talk to you by any means available. He didn't answer any of your questions, leaving you completely in the dark.
"(Y/n)?"
Suddenly the lights turned on in your room and you quickly pulled the blanket over your face so it wouldn't blind you. There you were, sitting in a fortress of pillows and blankets, surrounded by tissues. Your dad sighed. This wasn't an unusual sight anymore...
"I heard crying" Shouta continued, closing the door and carefully making his way towards your bed.
The two of you used to joke about what a mess it was. Like an obstical course to her bed or her desk. That every intruder would trip and fall before they even had a chance to hurt her. Yet now he didn't even comment about it.
"Do I have permission to enter the fortress of solitude?"
You pulled the blanket down and nodded, wiping a few straw tears away. This was your usual routine now. Trying to cry yourself to sleep, eventually being caught by your dad and then sleeping in his arms.
"Are you absolutely certain you don't want me to kill this boy?" Aizawa asked, hugging you. You gave it a dry chuckle and shook your head.
"Really? Cause nobody would know, you know. I'm a pro at hiding my tracks and as an underground hero, I know at least 20 places to hide a body where it will never be found"
"No dad, it's fine..." you sighed, leaning into his chest, wiping your tears.
You know dad is beating himself up about this. About allowing you to date Shinsou in the first place. Letting that boy into your home, only for him to cause this much damage... And either of you couldn't help but wonder... Would this have happened if you chose Iida instead of Shinsou? You cried harder at that thought, making dad hug you even more. The two of you laid down in your bed like that, him comforting you.
Sometimes it wouldn't be enough and you'd cry all night. If that was the case, Shouta would call in sick for the both of you and take you to the forest to train away your frustrations. But this didn't seem to be one of those nights. You drifted off into a deep sleep in your dad's arms, slipping into the endless dark void of the dreamscape.
...
Ugh, you've got to be fucking kidding, right? When is the League finally gonna learn not to attack your class every month?! Well, at least the 'surprise attacks' didn't really come as a surprise anymore but still... What the hell did they want anyway? You groaned, cracking your back as you rose from the floor.
"Everyone okay?!" Iida asked, checking in on all of your classmates. Hmm, he was so considerate and organised in situations like these... Perfect hero material, really. You gave it a small smile. Yeah, Iida sure is great...
"There don't seem to be major injuries" Uraraka said.
"Yeah, no shit, Deku didn't break anything for a change" Bakugou grunted.
"Kacchan!" Midoriya whined, yet everyone else laughed.
"Come on guys! It's been ages since I last broke my bones!"
"Dude, that was two weeks ago" Kirishima pointed out, only making the class laugh harder.
You laughed to, momentarily forgetting your heartache and pain. No one died and no one got seriously hurt, that calls for a celebration, doesn't it? Yet your happiness was short lived as you got an incoming call. Shinsou Hitoshi... What the hell did he want? He never tried to approach you before and you broke up over a month ago! Denied. You pressed the red phone with no hesitation and put your smile back on, laughing and celebrating with the rest of the class.
He kept calling for the rest of the day, texting the rest of the week. Apparently he'd heard about the attack and was worried about you. You never responded to any of them. He was worried? Let him be worried. He broke your damn heart for crying out loud! He broke up out of nowhere! Shinsou doesn't have the right to be fucking worried! And even after days, weeks, months... No matter how much time passed, you still cry in the shower.
You still can't face him in person, no matter how hard you try, afraid you'll just burst into tears. You still cry at night, wondering what you did wrong. Wondering about your actions and mistakes. You're just a hopeless romantic failure after all... And all this while not knowing Shinsou was going through the exact same thing.
The boy cries himself to sleep, wishing he could turn back time. He cries in the shower, cursing himself for ever letting those assholes get to his head. For ever being convinced breaking up was what's best for you in the long run. He can't face you, neither himself, knowing he made the biggest mistake of his life.
And just like you, he is broken...
