"It's about 130, 140 of them." Daryl said while he walked back to the tree with Dog. I was standing up while the other two were knelt down in front of me.
"You ever see them do this before?" Jesus asked and I watched the herd walking around each other in circles.
"No. Never." Aaron said.
"They don't do that, it's always moving forward." I said.
"Rosita's back trail goes right through em. We should get the horses, circle around, then we'll pick it up on foot." Daryl suggested and Aaron turned towards him.
"What about them?" Aaron asked.
"What about em?" Daryl asked him.
"They're just milling around. That's not normal." Jesus turned towards us and said it.
"No, Jesus, no it's not." I said.
"No. No, it ain't." Daryl said at the same time.
"We should go. There's a storm coming. Dog!" Daryl said and the Dog was barking somewhere in the distance.
"Come on, let's deal with them after we find Eugene." I said and put a hand on Aaron's shoulder before walking away.
I was walking in the big gap in between the two groups of people. I looked at Daryl and I started running until I was next to him.
"I miss you." I told him and he nodded his head.
"I know you prefer it out here, but Daryl I haven't seen you since three days after Scarlet was born...that was six months ago." I reminded him.
"Feels like it was yesterday. How is she?" Daryl asked.
"Is this what it is now? You pushing yourself away just like always?" I asked.
"I don't know what else to do. Visit at least once a month, start with that. I miss you and your still my brother." I reminded him.
"And your my sister. Always have been and always will be." He told me.
"You still lookin for him?" I asked.
"I never found a body, we never got the closure we needed. I just got used to it out here." Daryl told me.
"I know your happy out here by yourself, and I know your okay with not seeing anybody. But I'm not okay with not seeing you." I told him.
I froze and Daryl did too.
"Stay." He told Dog. Except the Dog was just sitting there looking at Jesus and Aaron.
I was looking around with Daryl and I could hear the two talking behind us. Daryl put his hand up and they slowly stopped talking.
Dog had already walked back and I turned too.
"That herd--it's coming for us." He told them.
"Which means we gotta find Eugene now." I told them and they looked like they didn't believe Daryl in that moment.
"The wind is carrying the sound." Daryl told them and we walked towards them while they looked around.
Daryl had a timer in his hand and he was cranking it. He threw it as far as he could and turned back towards them.
"C'mon. Let's put some ground between us and them." Daryl said and started walking. Aaron and Jesus ran so they could catch up to us.
"You put that herd around 140, right?" Jesus asked as we stood at the edge of the woods watching them move.
"Yeah." Daryl said as he walked over again.
