Training Day

I could hear the waves crashing against one another as they hit the edge. I looked at the ranks, they were looking good. Deep down I hope they never have to use it, but I'll always know they will. Being at Oceanside is always nice, especially now that Scarlet can actually participate. Her reaction to the ocean gets me every time.

It's also good that everyone is here. The training was minor but it could be major if we ever needed it to be. The boat couldn't have that many walkers inside, nothing me and Daryl or somebody else couldn't handle together. It seemed like a waste to have everybody here with the shield and weapons when it's just the boat, but this could save us someday so I hold onto that.

The water walkers threw me off every time though. It's a sight that never gets old, when you know they've been in the water awhile and they have the driftwood pieces. Good thing Judith was willing to go after those ones.

I marched alongside the ranks, Daryl being my right hand man on the other side. Judith quickly ran back to her spot as we marched forward.

"Watch your ranks. Watch your files." I reminded everybody as we got closer to the boat. Daryl stayed towards the back by the archers and I was just a few feet ahead of the shields. I looked to the side and then back to look at everyone.

We got to some driftwood and I stopped so they could go around. Daryl stayed back too and I looked at him before walking along the ranks and getting back to the front. They looked good I can give them that. Maybe not as good as the group that left Terminus, but they looked good.

Ezekiel dropped from the top of the boat and I knew it was almost time. The closer we got I could feel the excitement, I was ready to see them all in action. I was worried about Jerry and Ezekiel being at the door, nobody knows what can happen in that position.

Two Oceanside archers were ahead of everybody and they got to Ezekiel and Jerry, phase one. They banged on the door while the two men stood to the side. They backed away and Ezekiel opened the door. A walker was on the ground and the water came pouring out. It pushed itself up and I could see the outline of a few behind it. It would be easier if it wasn't pitch black inside.

The walker came out and completely ignored Ezekiel and Jerry. A few more followed and Oceansides girls backed up, they eventually ran back and disappeared behind the shields.

After a few more walkers slipped out, Ezekiel shut the door and they held it.

"And Halt!" I yelled once we were close enough and they all stopped at the same time.

"Drop!" Aaron yelled and they all got down to one knee.

"Archers!" I called out and walked towards the back. The arrows flew and I looked back to see the walkers falling with multiple arrows sticking out of each one.

"Retrieve!" Aaron yelled and three of the shields stood up to let Cyndie and Rachel run through. They ran to get the arrows and the ranks stood up.

"Right! And march!" I yelled and started marching forward with them. I looked up to see the hands coming through the door, all I could do was put my faith in the Kingdoms leader.

"Archers, regroup!" I could hear Daryl call out. We got closer and they opened the door again to let the walkers out, just a few, we needed to keep this controlled. They let Cyndie and Rachel back in and I waited a second.

"Formation! And halt!" I called back once we were close enough again. Ezekiel shut the door and I looked at the walkers.

"Spears!" I called out. They let the walkers get onto the shields and I could hear them calling to each other. It was good, they were doing good.
