I watched Aaron's chest rise again and fall. It was the same thing I had been doing since they all left.

I had reassured Enid and the others that I'd watch him and that's what I planned on doing.

I was watching his chest rise and fall, rise and fall. It meant he was still alive and he was holding on.

"Jess, you there?" I heard somebody ask and I pulled the walkie off my belt. I picked my elbow off the bed and made sure his chest rised.

"I'm here." I told Anthony over the Capital radio.

"Good." He said.

"How are things at home?" I asked.

"I saw Rick this morning, they're taking Judith in to see Siddiq and they're gonna have a family day." Anthony told me.

"What happened to Judith?" I asked.

"Just a cough, it's just a little thing going around. That's also another thing I wanted to talk to you about.
When it is time to come home, if this bug isn't done yet, I would stay somewhere else just until it is. It's probably at the Capital too." Anthony told me.

"Oh." I said.

"I don't want it, but if it's gonna keep you and Katherine from getting sick, then it's for the best." Anthony told me.

"Okay, then we'll do that." I told him.

"You okay?" He asked.

"No." I faintly said.

"What's up?" He asked.

"It's Aaron." I told him and tried to keep it together.

"What happened to Aaron?" Anthony asked and I relived it all.

"One of the Saviors--we already got rid of them--but they didn't charge there radio, so they didn't hear Tara telling them to put the siren off." I told him.

"Was it Justin?" Anthony asked.

"Yeah, it was.
But then the herd went towards the lumber crew. A log dropped on his arm and I--I had to take Aaron's arm off." I told him.

"It's a good thing it was you, it had to be you. And you know that. You wouldn't have let yourself get over it if it wasn't you." Anthony told me and I nodded my head in defeat.

"I know, it's just. I look at Aaron like one of my best friends." I told him.

"I know you do. But Aaron's one tough son of a bitch." Anthony reminded me and I already knew that.

"I know, I'm just waiting to ask about Gracie." I told him.

"I'll go back, ask for you, then I'll let you know." He told me.

"Thank you. I better get back to watching him, I love you." I told him.

"I love you, too." He told me and I put the radio down.

"Do you really think of me as a best friend?" Aaron asked and I leaned forward again.

"Hey, are you thirsty?" I asked.

"Do you really think of me as a best friend?" Aaron asked again with a smile on his face and I smiled back at him.

"Yeah, I really do." I told him.

"Good, I was hoping I wasn't the only one." He told me.

They were all shouting and I knew Justin's dead body was laying in the bed of the truck.

"Guess they're gonna execute every last one of us! Just like Justin!" Jed yelled

"Not if we have guns, too." Regina yelled and I shook my head.
