"I'm really excited for the school dance! I just wish I had someone to go with" Christine had pouted near her locker one day.

Two boys overheard her, immediately foiling plans in their minds.

"Hey Chris" Micheal smiles
a little too wild, leaning against
the locker next to hers.

"Christine! My girl! What is
up with you?" Jake preens,
gently play punching her
shoulder.

"Now- I couldn't help but
overhear you the other day
and I know the perfect
person to set you up with
for the dance"

"What I'm not acting weird
girl-friend psshhhh noooo.
Speaking of girlfriends, I
actually have a friend who
I think you would get on
super well with, and she's
also looking for a date to
the dance"

"His name is-"

"Her name is-"

"Jared Kleinman" "Zoe Murphy"

"He's an old friend of
mine and though,
admittedly he can be a
big of a dick, he's super
sweet and a great time"

"Zoe is the best. She plays
in jazz band and draws on
her jeans when she's bored.
She is the perfect girlfriend
for you and I know she'll
be over the moon to go to
the dance with you"

"What do you say? You interested?"

"Christine- you said yes to both dates?" Jeremy practically screeches into his phone.

"Okay okay listen before you judge me" Christine explains on the other end of the call.
"Micheal asked me first and told me about his friend Jared. Jared seems like great fun so I said yes! Like, half an hour later Jake came to me talking up his friend Zoe. I'm pansexual, Jeremy. The P stands for panic- I panicked! So now I have two dates to the 'Steam Through Exams' dance!"

"Well you have two options here" Jeremy pops the bubblegum he has been chewing for dramatic effect.
"One: cancel one of the dates, easy peasy. Two: go on both dates at the same time like the classic sitcom trope"

"Let's say- metaphorically, I did the second option. How would I do it?" Christine winds her hair around her finger, the cogs in her head turning.

"Well, if you were to follow the sitcom trope, you would need a different outfit for each date. You'd be running in and out of the coat room changing clothes. You'd talk to your first date for a few minutes, come up with an excuse like getting punch, then you'd go to the other date. It would probably end in both dates finding out about your plan, but that's inevitable" Jeremy says casually like he has thought about this for ages.

"Hmm cool cool cool. And let's say I did all that" Christine says, pacing back and forth across her bedroom.
"Would you help me?"

"Damn is love to, but Micheal and I have been banned from all school dances until senior prom. They never did forgive us for that Kool Aid prank" Jeremy shudders at just the thought of the prank.
