The boy with secrets and jewels POV

I watch Jie-Lin slip away from the party, and hurry down the hall.

I want to go follow her, to make sure that she's safe, to satisfy the pull inside.

I vaguely recall Lila, my betrothed, walking towards me.
"Look, pixieboy. I can see you love Auri and I don't really like you, so, go after her!" She cries, and drags me off the fountain bench.

"I- I don't not love her." I say, brushing myself off.

"I didn't know elves blush with their ears." She says, hands on her hips.

"I am not blushing." I growl, and walk away towards where Jie-Lin hurried off to.

"You are!" She shouts behind me, and I ignore her calls. My only mission is to find Jie-Lin. Or Aurora. Whatever she calls herself.

I walk down the hall, and hear faint voices. I keep myself out of sight, but I see Jie-Lin being helped out of a window.

"When are you leaving?" I hear a male voice call.

"I don't know! A few days? I have a few things I need to clear up." I hear her musical voice say.

"Well then, you better hurry it up with your boyfriend then, Stowaway."

"He is not-" She begins, a dark tone in her voice. But I can't help but wonder, does she mean me? Does she love me?

No. I doubt it.

I mustn't get my hopes up.

"Ah, ah, ah, don't deny the flame that burns between you and the hot elf prince." The male cuts her off.

Hot elf prince?

Was he talking about me?

"Shut up, Finley. Is it just you here? I need to talk to Ty."

Who is Ty? Does she have another lover?

"No, just me."

She sighs. It's a beautiful sound. "I should get going, someone's gonna suspect something."

My eyes widen, and I hide behind a pillar.

"Yeah, yeah. Say hi to your boyfriend to me!" He calls as Jie Lin crawls through the window.

I almost think she's safe from this Finley, before I hear a muttered curse and a groan.

She's fallen out of the window, and is now sitting on the floor in a pile of crimson skirts.

"See? You've already fallen for him." Finley calls, and I have to stifle the urge to punch him, to break this Finley.

I hear someone call my name, and I rush back to the party, leaving the girl I love behind.

"What do you need me for, Saedii?" I ask.

"Father wants you to spend the night with your be'shmai."

I roll my eyes, and head towards my room, where Lila is already waiting.

"Sooooooo, didcha talk to her?" She asks, crossing her arms.

"No." I reply, my voice cold.

"Ooooh, chilly. Can we go inside?" She says, picking up on my tone.

I open the door and Lila flops down on my perfectly made bed.

"Uuuuuuuuugh." Lila sighs.

I raise an eyebrow at her, and she looks up at me.

"Parties. Suck. Ass." She says, dead serious.

"Ass?" I ask her, unsure of the word.

She snorts, and busts into a fit of giggles.

"You are not a people person."

"Well, I am a elf."

"No shit Sherlock. Aaaaaanyways, tell me all the deets about you and Auri!" She cries, sitting straight up.

"There are no 'deets'"

"Mmmmmm, Kal, honey, are you sure?"

"I am sure."

"Well, anyways, she likes chocolate and music. Just saying, in case you want to...y'know, surprise her?"

I pause, unsure. "And why would I do that?"

She rolls her eyes. "Because that's what a good boyfriend does?"

"I'm not her boyfriend."

"Right. Well, you like her, right?"

I nod my head, hesitant.

"Then, sUPRISE HER!" She cries, and shakes my shoulders.

I push her off, and slowly, hesitantly, nod my head.

"Well, Kal, let Operation Jie Lin begin."
