The girl with mismatched eyes POV

Lila and I walk into the Palace Garden, and are meeted with a beautiful sight of   A roof with a canopy of twisting leaves, and softly glowing light from lantern hung around the huge room.

The rest of the Humans are already there, so we hurry over to them, to uncomfortable to dance with the beautiful elves.

After a while, I grab Lilas hand and drag her into the dance floor. The crowd parts for us, because were the only humans there on the dance floor.

"What are you doing?" She splutters as shes twirled and dropped.

"Dancing!"

She laughs as I twirl her around, and we start making up a whole dance of our own.

We twist and turn, the whole rooms eyes on us. But we don't care.

I hear snatches of hushed conversation as we dance.

"This girl will be perfect for Kallis."

"What are they doing?"

"Humans."

When the song ends, we stop and sit down next to the fountain, laughing about how the elves all hate us now.

We were laughing so hard that we didn't know he was coming until he was here.

"Hello." Kallis says, and sits down next to us.

Neither one of us want to speak, but Lila does it first.

"Look, lets get it over with. I don't want to marry you, and you don't wanna marry me. But, what I do know is that you guys have history, and I'll leave you to talk about it."

She gets up and leaves, but not without flashing me a wink.
I roll my eyes back at her and look at Kallis.

He's beautiful...

"Jie-Lin." He says, wonder in his voice.

"No One." I say, already done.

"I didn't know you were a mage."

"And I didn't know you were a prince, but here we are."

"You seem...agitated."

"No shit."

"Why, Jie Lin?"

"Don't call me that. Call me Auri. And,, you would be pretty agitated if your talking to the guy who you got scars for."

"Scars?"

I turn around to show off my back, the ugly scars that run all through my back, slicing up the skin.

"Got then the night after I visited you. They realised that a child had been sneaking into the palace, they gave me a beating." I say, and turn back around to face him.

He just sits there in shock.

I roll my eyes, telling him that I'm fine.

I turn to stand up and leave, but he stops me, grabbing me by the arm.

"Did you remember me? Did you...think about me?"

"Of course I did. Now, let go of my arm, now."

He lets go and I walk into the winding halls of the palace, far out of anyone's sight, thinking about what happened.

He remembers.

Maybe we could really be friends?

I'm brought out of my thoughts by a tapping on the window.
