"Braid my hair." Aurora demands, her hands on her hips.

"What?"

"Braid. My. Hair."

She does this weird (and insanely beautiful) look.
"Plllleeeeeeeaaaaassssseeeee?"

I sigh.
"Fine."

With a giggle, she produces a hairbrush and several hair ties from seemingly thin air.

She flops into my lap, and hums a little four-note song.

I brush out the knots and tangles in her hair, and gather it into bunches to plait.

"Do you ever realise," Aurora says "How much I love you?"

I smile, and my ears burn.
"Yes."

She turns around and kisses me, tasting of smoke and something sweet and starlight.

"Your going to mess up your hair." I breathe.

"I don't care."

Aurora sits down next to me, and lays her head in my lap.

I look down from my book, and stroke her hair softly, only stopping to turn the page.

This is okay. This is allowed. She won't know.

"Aurora?" I ask.

"Can you call me Auri? Please? Whenever you say it it's like I'm getting in trouble."

"Auri..." I try the word out.

"Actually, never mind. I like Be'shmai better."

Dear Aurora.

I miss you.
I know I messed up.
I risked everything.
I still love you. Don't you get that?
Why don't you love me?
I'm sorry, Be'shmai. I truly am.
