The family had arrived in StoryBrooke for their three week vacation and Henry couldn't have been happier he was home.
About an hour after they arrived Dalton had a bombshell to drop on Hope so he decided to drop it on her away from prying eyes so he took her to the docks.
"What's going on?" She demanded knowing he hated the smell of the sea and would only put up with it because she loved it so much
"I have to tell you something and I don't think your going to like it!"
"For god sake! What now?" She huffed
"I'm not staying for three weeks but you are, in two weeks time I'm returning home but your staying with your parents!"
"Ok!" She smiled
"Wait? No tantrum or begging me to stay?" He asked completely shocked by her reaction
"No, what's the point you have a kingdom to run I didn't expect you to come at all if I'm honest! Now... what do you say I show you my childhood bedroom?"
"I'd love you too!" He smiled as she lead him away from the docks and to the Jones residence.
When they got there Dalton was shocked at how big the house was considering at the maximum only four people lived there and for the majority of the that time Hope was no older than 2. He then realised it was roughly the same size as their house it just looked bigger because the last time he had seen the house he had been 2 years old himself.
Hope opened the gate and the two of them waltzed up to the door when Hope pressed her hands into Daltons chest to prevent him from going into the house. She hadn't told him but they would be staying in her bedroom which hadn't been touched since everyone returned to the Enchanted Forest, even during Brooke's cursed it had been preserved.
"Hope? What's going on?" He chuckled knowing exactly why she didn't want him to go in yet
"I was thinking... wouldn't you prefer to stay in Henry's old room considering it's not... well decorated how 2 year old me insisted it was done?"
"I think your forgetting I have a twin sister!" He laughed before pushing past her and entering the Jones residence.
He was pleasantly surprised to find Emma sat in the front room watching a this world show and Killian in the kitchen making whatever he was making.
"There you are!" Emma smiled "Your father thought you'd gotten lost!"
"No...well... alright maybe I did!" He laughed ushering them both to where Emma sat
"Actually I wanted to take all this upstairs!" she smiled wafting her hand over the masses of luggage she had brought with her. Her parents nodded whilst Dalton carried it all up the stairs with Hope carrying very little as both Killian and Dalton refused to allow her to do any heavy lifting.
When they reached Hopes old bedroom door a small smile graced her face and her stomach was suddenly filled to the brim with butterfly's.
Her hand hovered over the gemmed door handle before she gently pushed the door open. Dalton couldn't believe how well decorated it was, sure his parents had put effort into his and Darlings shared bedroom (only for show) but this was another level.
The back wall was covered in washed out pink swan wallpaper, the bed was a suitable size for him now never mind a two year old and hanging above it was the compass Hope had told him her parents first adventure revolved around, he looked to the left of the bed to see a set of draws with a small plastic hook sat on top of them to which he couldn't help but chuckle imagining a little Hope running around pretending to be her father, he then noticed everything else he'd expected to find like a toy box and dress up clothes but then he saw something he would never of expected to see in Hopes bedroom. A framed photo of him, Hope, Darling and Dex on what looked like the twins second birthday
"You've always loved me!" He laughed picking up the golden frame
"Oh my god! Look how cute you were!" She cooed before he shot her a look that read please stop but Hope being Hope completely ignored that and continued to coo over the photo
"Why don't you bring it home with us?" He smiled to which Hope excitedly agreed. Despite everything that had happened between her and Dex she would always wish him well and would be grateful for the time they had spent together.
"So you don't mind sleeping in here?" Hope asked silently hoping he'd say he didn't mind and of course he agreed but just on the off chance she took him through to what was Henry's room just so he had the option.
It wasn't nearly as nicely decorated as Hopes but Henry had refused to allow Emma to decorate it on account that he was leaving home soon and that he spent most of his time at Regina's house.
"You two done yet?" Emma called up the stairs
"Coming!" Hope yelled pulling Dalton down the stairs to find that her parents had set up the front room for a film night
"What's all this for?" She giggled as she tucked herself into Daltons side
"Nothing, I thought you might like a night with your husband and your parents unless you'd prefer just your husband!" Emma winked as she watched Killian's face turn a shade of red from embarrassment.
"No! What we watching?" Hope asked as she and Dalton made themselves comfortable in the armchair that sat opposite the fire
"Pirates of the Caribbean!" Emma announced proudly. About an hour into the film Hope and Killian began screaming at the TV at just how bad of a job these 'pirates' were doing.
Emma and Dalton however had no idea what they were doing wrong despite the fact they had both revived and in detail explanation of everything they were doing wrong.
"Hold on... Hope? Isn't that the chest you want?" Dalton asked hesitantly as he noticed the chest Hope had been banging on about for months appear on the screen
"Yeah!" She admitted sheepishly looked at her mother for help pulling her out but she didn't
"Sometimes I worry about babe!" He smiled but Hope looked at him with confusion before he quickly changed the subject "So I heard Regina isn't too happy with Robin and Faiths sleeping arrangements!"
"Oh god what've they done?" Emma laughed
"They've gone camping for the first week were back!" He laughed
"Bloody hell! Can you imagine that Swan?"
"No! I don't want to either I'm quite happy with our comfortable off the ground bed! Thinking of it I'm going to start heading up there now!" She smiled as she looked over at Hope who was trying her hardest to stay awake.
Instinctively Killian went to pick her up to take her to bed when Emma pulled him back reminding him that it wasn't his job to carry her up to bed anymore.
Dalton saw the disappointment in his face and thought he'd help Emma out with the tidying up allowing Killian to take up to bed.
Killian silently thanked him as he scooped Hope up from the couch and took her up the stairs. She rested her head on her father chest accepting the sleep she had been trying so hard to fight off whilst her husband put her mothers cleaning skills to shame
"Your a real Cinderella!" Emma laughed
"Well Mom didn't teach me much but she did teach me how to look after a home!" He smiled.
Meanwhile Killian had successfully made it up to Hopes room and he couldn't help but remember the last time he carried her into this room she must have been about one or two and made sure she had her parents attention at every waking moment.
He gently placed her down in bed pulling her duvet over her tiny frame and he noticed a small tear fall down his face. He would never admit it to anyone but Emma but he missed having Hope at home, sure she was only ten minutes down the road but she would never be that little girl that wanted nothing more than to hang from her father hook or have Emma do magic tricks for her.
He quickly wiped his tear away before leaving the room allowing Dalton to climb into bed next to Hope who made quick work of making herself comfortable up against him
"You weren't really asleep were you?" He smirked
"So many stairs!" She laughed
"Well you made your dad really happy!"
"Did I?"
"Isn't it obvious how badly your parents miss you?"
"No I always thought they were ok with it!"
"Hope when this little one grows up and leaves home I don't know what I'll do with myself!" He laughed
"You'll have to find something to do because trust me I'm only popping the one out!" She smiled before drifting off to sleep.
