You hoisted your bag across your shoulder blade, burying your list of ingredients inside of your satchel. As you approached the office of Levi, your gaze narrowed down onto him impatiently standing at the end of the corridor.

He tapped his foot with his lips puckered into a frown: "You're late." His hoarse voice stiffened whilst his gaze shifted towards the watch on his wrist.

"Only by a minute."

Levi shook his head disapprovingly; he tutted. The Captain immediately began to turn his shoulder away from you, ordering for you to follow his lead and not stray away from his sight.

Levi wore his ordinary, plain attire; a clean, white shirt and a white cravat tied to his collar. His sleeves had been rolled up to reveal his muscular forearms. An ash-brown waistcoat hugged his slender waist and accentuated his thick muscles. His large hands were buried inside of the pockets of his charcoal-coloured trousers.

Levi used his shoulder to pry open the door to leave the Barracks.

The air outside was damp. Thick, dark-grey clouds fogged the atmosphere, blocking any glimpses of the summer-sunlight. The world was cold; the bitter breeze of the day bit at your skin. You instinctively pulled your jacket closer to your body; your arms hugged your chest protectively to avoid the chilly day.

When Levi exhaled, cold smoke left his parted lips.

Whilst you silently strolled through the endless lanes that guided you to the distant market, your fingers brushed against his. He immediately retracted his arm; he glared coldly at you, almost, as if you had done it purposefully. You pettily glared back at him, beginning to regret forcing Levi to accompany you during the excruciating, long walk.

Levi turned his face away from you: "This is pointless." He muttered through his clamped teeth, "Why are you even doing this for him?"

"What do you mean?"

Levi scrunched his nose with a sigh: "Why can't you just give Onyankopon a pat on the back? Why can't you just say thank-you? This is more effort than he deserves, and, now I'm being dragged into this, as well."

"Don't be a dick-head, Captain Levi." Your insult was immediately met with a harsh-nudge from him, "Onyankopon took the blame of the hickeys for your sake, not for mine. If anything, this should be you doing this for him right now."

"That's not going to happen." His tone grew more condescending, "I don't do favours for people. If someone wants to do something for me, then, they shouldn't expect me to give them anything in return. That's not how life works."

You momentarily halted, growing continuously more agitated by his brutal demeanour. Levi slowly turned around, lowering his head in fatigue; his dark eyes slowly locked onto yours as a shiver ran up the inches of your spine.

"You're selfish, Captain Levi."

"Watch your mouth." His tone sharpened whilst he began to step closer towards you in confrontation, "It's not my fault that you have no back-bone, Y/N. You're spineless."

"I have a back-bone!"

For a moment, your composure faltered; Levi raised his brows in surprise, warily taking a step away from you. You hung your head lower, slowly breathing in.

"I have a back-bone, Captain." You quietly muttered, "Unlike you, I'm kind to people; I treat people with respect, and, I don't go out of my way to hurt others feelings. However, that doesn't mean that I'm spineless; I don't let people walk all over me, and, I'm capable of standing up for myself."
