You didn't speak much to Levi over the next week. You muttered an awkward 'hey' when you walked past eachover, and sometimes you would offer him a weak smile, but they were never returned.
He'd tried to talk to you a few times, attempting to ask you if you wanted to walk up to the Market with him or if you wanted to keep him company whilst he worked, but you'd denied him every time.
"Oi, Yaeger."
"What do you want?"
"I have a shit load of
documents I need to complete
by tonight. You wanna'
keep me company? We can
get some food, and I'll make you
a tea as a reward.""I'm fine. Thankyou."
"Oh-Right. Okay, nevermind
then, I guess."You'd be lying if you said you didn't miss him spending time with Levi, but at the same time couldn't bring yourself to talk to him.
You needed to get over him: you knew that. Or, at the very least, you could force yourself to try. You were too different of people, you were bound to be heart-broken:
He was Humanities Strongest Soldier, and you were a Shifter.
He was strong enough to survive almost any battle, and you would be around for less than two years before it was someone else's time to take over your Titan.
Heartbreak was inevitable when it came to him.
For the past week, you'd brought books from the local library to fill in your spare time, and had been picking up random hobbies from the Main Town, not to mention visiting it so often that you were already on a name-to-name basis with the workers.
This including 'Kaspar'.
You massaged your best smelling soap into your legs, bubbles all around you in the steaming bath.
The room smelt of your favourite smells: a misty smoke in the air from the steam from the bath, dripping down the mirrors. The water went further than your chest, the feeling of your body dissolving in relaxation.
Someone knocked on the door to the bathroom.
You raised an eyebrow, "Who is it?" You called out.
"Me. Can I come in?" Levi knocked harshly against the wooden door as you rolled your eyes.
"Oh-.. Erm, Yeah." You muttered, hearing him open the door as you adjusted yourself so that the water and bubbles covered everything.
He immediately inhaled the rich smell, his expression relaxing swiftly.
"Huh.." He whispered to himself, sitting on his knees infront of the bath as if he was waiting to have a discussion with you, "It smells nice in here."
You nodded.
He looked you up and down: the expensive soaps, the bubbles, the lotion of your favourite smells.. You watched as the crook of his lip curled into a smirk, eyeing you up and down.
He tilted your chin to look at him, "You're using all the fancy stuff.." He still had the addicting smirk on his face, "You haven't got something planned for us tonight, do you?"
You smiled once again, "Actually, no, it's quite the opposite."
"Eh-?" He raised an eyebrow, having no idea as to what you were hinting at.
"I-.." You swallowed as he gave you a weird look, "I-.. actually have a date."
"But," He cluelessly raised an eyebrow, "I never agreed to g-"
"Not with you, idiot."
His face immediately dropped.
You swished the water inbetween your finger tips, "Can you remember the guy that asked me out? The one from the Military Police a few weeks ago?" You began as a small smile began to linger.
"Yes." Levi coldly answered, his arms now folded over his chest, "I remember him well."
You smiled more excitedly, "Well, the other day I decided to go back and accept his offer. I've spoken to him a few times since then when I've went up to the Market this week.. I just couldn't say no."
You needed to get over 'him', and you figured the best way possible was to start speaking to other people to take your mind off of him.
Levi didn't speak for a few seconds, his eyes glued to the bottom of the bath.
"So.." He began speaking finally, breaking the awkward silence as the tension between you both grew thick, "When I asked you to go to the Market with me.. the reason you said no wasn't because you were tired or busy, it was because you just.. didn't want to spend time with me?"
His usual cold tone had gone softer, his voice sounding genuinely hurt by you.
You shrugged with a pang of guilt, "It's nothing personal, Levi." You answered, annoyed by the fact that you didn't have the heart to be honest to the man in front of you.
He shook his head quickly, sitting up as your eyes widened, "But what about me?"
"What about you?"
He placed a hand over his chest, lacing it with his shirt with furrowed brows, "You don't need a boyfriend when you have me."
"But you're not my boyfriend."
"What does that have to do with anything?"
You rolled your eyes, "I don't need a boyfriend because I have you?" You repeated his words, completely dumbfounded by his obliviousness, "Why, so we can carry on playing this back and forth game of friends with benefits that always ends with you disliking me still?"
His tapped his finger against the side of the bath tub, "Yeah, actually. Exactly my point."
"I've just been thinking lately.. that's all. About what I want, and what I don't want." You sighed, wiping your arms with soap as his expression began to turn down, "Levi. I don't want that life. It might be fun for you, but I'm a shifter: I don't have much time left, and I don't want to waste that time away playing this game with you."
You could hear a sigh slip from his lips, his hand pressed firmly against the bathtub beside you whilst he pulled himself up to his feet.
He placed both hands in either pocket, "Alright.. but when he turns out to be even more of a jack ass than me, you better not come crying to me about it." He huffed.
He began to leave the room as your eyebrows furrowed, "Don't worry.. I won't need to when he turns out to be more of a gentleman than you could ever even dream of."
Your Captain flashed you a sarcastic smile, his fingers pursed around the doorknob, "Oh, how I love it when you try and offend me.."
"Just get out!"
Your fingers cased around the nearest thing you could get your hands on, throwing it in his direction but he managed to escape the room before it could hit him.
