Your blood was overflowing with pure anxiety; your body was trembling to the point where it physically hurt you.He took a few, swift steps forward before you extended your arm, tumbling back as you realised that no one knew that he was speaking with you. They were all trying to push back as many mindless titans as possible: distracted from the Beast Titan himself.
"S-.. Stay back!" You snapped at your brother, watching his eyes widen, "I'm warning you.. stay back!"
"Come on, Y/N.." Zeke murmured with a genuine glare of pain in his eyes, "You know I'm not going to hurt y-"
"Are you even listening to yourself, Zeke?" You yelled at him, your throat beginning to tighten and burn, "I can't even recognise you.. you're not the man I was raised with: you're a stranger!"
Zeke's eyes widened with shock, his body paralysed with an emotion you couldn't depict. You watched as his pupils slowly sunk to the ground: his hands went limp as if proving that he was defenceless.
You swallowed, raising your fingers to your lower lip. You wouldn't shift: or, at least not yet - you just needed him to know that you had a weapon that could kill him in an instant if he tried anything.
Your brothers eyes slowly ran up your body, his expression becoming weak, "I'm so tired, Y/N."
You swallowed, realising that your body was shaking.
Zeke lowered his head a little more, yet still refused to break eye contact, "I.. don't know how much more of this I can handle."
"What-.." Your voice came out as a terrified squeak before you cleared your throat, stepping forward, "What do you mean by this?"
"I mean this." He raised his tone as your body flinched, genuinely terrified with the stranger infront of you, "Fighting against someone I promised to care for; knowing that only one of us can outlive this war - if not neither of us; knowing that you hate me.. knowing that the one, last, good person on the hell of an Earth is planning my death."
You scoffed, "Don't try and guilt trip me." You replied, despite being genuinely unsure on his motives, or if he had any motives at all.
He stepped forward.
Different emotions filled your brain; your blood; your heart. Fear; longing; anger; adrenaline.
"I-.." He paused, his voice difficult to hear over the bombs and explosions that surrounded you: you knew it was only a matter of time before someone realised that he had escaped from his titan, "I remember the day you were born like it was yesterday." Zeke forced a now tearful smile as you watched silver strips of water stain his pale, sickly face, "I was left with grandpa and grandma all day whilst Dina and Grisha were at the hospital ward.. I wanted a little brother, but I knew that they'd always wanted a girl, even before I was born." His voice cracked a little as he spoke as you felt your eyes begin to sting, "I hated you before I'd even seen you, because I knew that you were already something they wanted more. And.. then they took me to see you." You placed your hand over your lips, scared of him seeing you in a moment of weakness, "And.. I was still just a kid: maybe four, or five. And I held you in my arms for the very first time.."
You stepped back: "Please stop talking."
He ignored your plead: "And your skin was so soft: your eyes were so innocent, devoid of any trauma's from the outside world." He took of his glasses, "Your E/C eyes were still glossy from crying, curiously peering around the room as I held you in the bundle of blankets you'd been dressed in. And.. your small fingers wrapped around mine." Zeke took a few moments to think, running his fingers through his hair to tidy the ends, "And.. at that moment.. I swore to myself that I'd never let anything happen to you. I swore that I'd protect you at all costs, no matter how much it hurt me, or anyone else."
"Why're you telling me thi-?"
"I'm not going to hurt you." He admitted for a final time, "I plan to keep that promise." He sighed through his nose, his eyes slowly running to the ring on your ring-finger, "Hm."
A chill ran up your spine.
"You're.. engaged to him, aren't you?" He gestured towards your hand, "Can.. I take a look at the ring?"
Your breaths were shaky and tired, a single tear slowly sunk down your face as you reluctantly stepped closer to the man you'd shared your entire life with.
His slender fingers traced your hand, lifting it up beside his face as his eyes became entranced with the diamond.
His eyes widened.
"Shit-.." He attempted to joke, raising his hand to wipe a tear, "Pricey. He must really love you, mustn't he?"
You lowered your head with shame, desperate to hug him but having to force yourself to keep back.
His fingers traced the diamond once more as you heard a distant yell, before another bomb erupted around you and you watched bodies soar past you on their gear.
Zeke's eyes widened as someone's hand latched around the roots of his blonde hair.
And that was when you felt someone's arms lock around yours, forcing you back.
You gasped out loud, feeling as your two muscular arms held your figure back, forcing you to sit on the ground as the world suddenly began to erupt with chaos.
You clenched your jaw, but was unable to look and see who was holding you back.
You tried to hit and scratch them, desperate to be let go as another figure held onto you, feeling as they began to drag you away by your arms.
You couldn't see far in front of you: your tears were blocking your vision, all you could see was a clearing beginning to be made as Scouts surrounded you.
Someone knelt a meter infront of you as if to cover your vision. They pressed their hands against each side of your head, whispering things to you to help you calm down, but your mind was too focused on something else.
Your eyes blankly stared with confusion as to why you were being held back, before you realised who was holding you back: Pieck and Jean.
You gazed at them with puzzled eyes, unsure on why these two people specifically were holding your body so tightly-..
And that was when you saw him.
His blades at the ready.
Everyone else far back, trying to prevent you from seeing yet you just managed to witness what was about to happen as someone's body glided out of your way..
Levi raised his sharp, silver blades above Zeke's neck.
You screamed.
