What are you hiding ( tw ed ⚠️)

" Hey" I said as I answered the phone.

" Hey, I was calling to see if you wanted to come to lunch with me. This cute little place just opened up downtown ." My friend Cici said .

" Oh , I don't know , I just ate , but I can come and just get a water if you want to do that." I said hoping she'd buy my lie. I haven't eaten since dinner two days ago.

" Uh, yeah okay." She said seeming to question my statement. " I'll pick you up in 15."

" Okay sounds good." I said and hung up .

I quickly went to change . I picked out a big hoodie that used to be my brothers , and a pair of sweats. I didn't want anyone to see how fat I looked . I brushed my hair which was looking pretty bad lately because it was getting thinner, and put on a pair of vans. I also put concealer and foundation on to make me look less ghostly. I had just finished with the mascara when Cici texted she was outside.

I quickly looked in the mirror really quick trying not to cry , and then went outside slamming the front door shut.

" Hey!" I said getting into the passenger side .

" Aren't you going to sweat in that Jessie?" She asked as she pulled out of my driveway.

" Nah, I've been running cold lately." I said laughing a bit.

" Oh okay." She said and turned on the music.

We were singing and gossiping about random things the whole drive . When we got to the cafe place , we got out and took a seat at a little table outside. She was right , it was actually cute .

The waitress came up to us.

" Hello, can I please get the double chicken pesto panini." Cici said .

" Of course . That's a house favorite." Said the waitress. " And what can I get you?" She said making eye contact with me.

" Oh just a water please ." I said politely and she looked at me weird for a second but wrote it down anyway and then walked off.

" You sure you don't want anything? We can split mine ." Cici said .

" Yeah I'm sure. Late breakfast this morning."  I said .

" Oh what'd you have ?" She asked .

" Eggs and toast with some bacon ." I said lying easily on the spot.

" Bro was it good ? I haven't had bacon in ages , I'm coming over soon for it ." Cici said laughing.

" Yeah , I made it at like earlier than the eggs , at like around 10:00 , because I was just craving it so bad ." I said trying to be convincing using details.

" Oh , was that before or after you were in the gym from 9:00-11:00?" She said clearly upset.

" How did you..." I went to ask but got interrupted.

" My stepdad was there the whole time and when he came back he mentioned to me that he saw you there. Why are you lying to me Jessie? What is going on?" She said trying to stifle her anger.

" Not here." I whispered on the verge of a breakdown.

" Okay fine then." She said just as the waitress brought the food . " Oh sorry to ask but could I get a box and the bill right now. I just had something very important come up." Cici told the waitress.

The waitress obliged and came back quickly with both Cici's requests. She boxed up her food and put cash down for the bill. I took out a few dollars for a tip and Cici stood up harshly motioning for me to do the same which I did.

We walked out to her car and as soon as the doors closed she spoke.

" Talk. You lied to me about eating , didn't order food here, and were in the gym for two hours on a Saturday morning." She said arms crossed .

" It's nothing." I said.

" Jessie please just talk to me , I'm worried okay." She said in a much softer tone.

I didn't answer and just broke down in tears. Cici immediately wrapped her arms around me comforting me.

" Shh, Shh, it's okay , it's just me here. I don't judge you , I just care about you and I want to be here for you and I can be if you just let me ." She said.

" Cici , I have a problem, I know I do , I just don't care." I said .

" Okay , can you tell me what it is so I can care about it for you? " She asked.

I didn't answer and we sat there in silence for a few minutes before I finally got the courage to say something.

" I haven't eaten since Thursday." I said and the look on her face made me start crying again.

" Hey , hey. It's okay." She said wiping the tears from my eyes with her thumbs. " Thank you so much for telling me. I'm going to be here for you and I'm going to try my best to help you. How about I take you back to my place and we can talk some more , or I can just be there with you , whatever you need from me right now ." Cici said.

I nodded.

" Okay perfect." She said grabbing my hand and squeezing it gently as she backed out of the parking lot .

" I'm so proud of you for saying something, I know that must have been hard." She said .

" I love you." I said .

" I love you too." She said and we went back to her place and talked the rest of the day.
