I woke up to my girlfriend's phone ringing. It was her mom so I picked it up.

" Hey Mrs. Richmond. It's Delilah. Kailey just got to sleep about an hour and a half ago. Is everything okay?" I asked.

" Oh, uh, I was just calling her because I saw on her location that she was at the bar so I texted her to call me when she got home but she didn't so I called." She replied.

" The bar? She was to be at work tonight." I whispered.

" Yeah that's where her location was and I saw she got home but I was still worried." Mrs. Richmond said.

" Oh. Well she's fine from what I can tell, sober too. I'll tell her to call you tomorrow yeah?" I said tiredly.

" Okay thanks Delilah. You sleep well now dear." She said and I said a thank you and good bye before hanging up.

I fell back asleep for a few more hours and when I was woken again it was by Kailey smacking me accidentally with her arm when she rolled over.

Light had begun to peer into the room and I thought I saw something on Kailey's arm as her sleeve had rolled up, so I adjusted myself so I could look closer without waking her.

When I got a better look I could tell that she had lines all up and down her arm. There had to be dozens and I froze. I knew what it was but I had to confirm. After my initial shock dissipated, I shined my phone flashlight on her arm and sure enough it's what I had thought it to be.

I didn't want to wake her so I just held her tightly and fell asleep so I could make sure she was safe until the morning.

She woke up before me and after a few minutes she kissed my cheek and forehead until I opened my eyes.

" Good morning baby. Do you wanna go for a breakfast date this morning?" She asked.

"Mmm good morning love." I said and kissed her lips. " I'd love that, but maybe it can be more of a brunch date. We have to talk about something baby."

She pulled away from me anxiously. " What, what's wrong?" She said panicking.

I took her hand and held it before saying. " Breathe baby. It's okay. Everything is okay."

She took a few deep breaths with me before I started again. " Sweetheart, this might be hard for you to hear and talk about but I want to preface with I'm not mad or upset or anything bad okay? I love you. Can you promise to try and trust that?"

" Okay." She said, her hands shaking a bit.

" Your sleeve rolled up while you were sleeping and I saw your arm honey." I said.

She burst into tears and I wrapped my arms around her telling her to follow my breathing, and she eventually calmed down.

" You aren't mad?" She asked.

" No. Not at all. Can you explain to me though? Where, when, how long has this been happening?" I asked.

" Just on my arm I swear. What's there now is mainly from yesterday. It's been 5 or 6 weeks. Ever since I lost my job" she answered ashamed.

Trying to keep my cool I asked calmly, " You lost your job? Is that why you've been at the bar?"

" You know?" She asked surprised. " How?"

" Your mom called last night asking if you were back from the bar okay. Your location was on apparently. I told her you'd call her back today." I said.

" Oh." She said. " Yeah, I've been at the bar, but only a drink I promise you that. I'm not getting drunk at them."

"It's okay. I wish you'd told me sooner, about both things, but it's alright. I know now and I'm here to help you." I said.

" I'll tell you everything from now on I promise." She said.

" Okay baby, okay. On a different note, I need to ask you about your arm. Did you clean and put ointment on them after? Also did you use something clean?" I said gesturing to generally where the wounds were on her arm as her sleeve had fallen back into place as she slept.

" I did. I'm careful Delilah. I am." She said.

" Well that's great love, but you know you can't keep doing this right?" I asked.

" Yeah. I know. I'm sorry." She said sadly.

" You have nothing to apologize for my love. How about we get up and get ourselves ready for that brunch date and when we get back home we can talk more about this, how's that sound?" I prepositioned.

She nodded so we did exactly that, and Kailey called her mom back on the drive home.
