What the hell have i done?

I sank down on the chair that was right outside the elevator and buried my face in my hands. My heart was beating so hard in my chest that i could hardly breathe. Was this what it felt like when a heart broke?

As i straightened up, i tried to force air down into my lungs. Now it was over between me and Thomas. What else would I have done? fucked him in the elevator and then pretend my feelings for him didn't exist? yes, maybe that would have been the best option for the moment.

I closed my eyes and focused on finding my breath. I couldn't meet Ace if i could hardly breathe and was shaking in despair like an ash leaf. It was just to forget and move on. Thomas probably didn't care so why should i put more energy into him? it was over between us.

"Y/n!"

I flinched and tried to focus my tear filled gaze where the voice came from. Bloody hell, Ace was already here. I cleared my throat and stood up and took a few deep breaths, it was going to be fine, everything is going to be fine.

"Hey, is everything okay?" he asked, looking at me scrutinizingly.

"Yeah, everything's fine. Just tired in my body, i'm not used to skiing" i replied with a smile, hoping he bought my lie.

"I understand that, you use muscles you never work with."

"You are probably right and since i never train, my whole body is counted in the muscles you never work with" i said amused, so Ace laughed.

"You are funny, so what are we going to do?" he asked, rocking lightly on his heels, it was indeed a good question because my plan hadn't gone that far.

"You know the best about this place but have you eaten? We could eat something."

"Sure, but didn't you just come from the restaurant?" he asked with a laugh as we started walking away towards the exit.

"Yeah but i didn't eat anything, i didn't like the food" i lied and cleared my throat.

"Okay, but we can go to my house and i will fix something simple for us."

"Sure, why not" i said and passed him as he held open the front door.

Ace lived not far from the hotel, a walk of maybe 5-10 minutes before we arrived at what looked like an apartment building with a mountain cabin feel. It looked really cozy. He keyed in the code and held the door open for me. We went up the narrow stairs that led up to the second floor where Ace stopped in front of a large wooden door.

"Welcome to my home, it's not much but it's enough" he said with a smile and let me step into the dark hall.

He came close behind me and lit a lamp that was on the dresser in the hall. I looked around curiously, it wasn't big but quite cosy.

"It's very nice here" i said smiling as i took off my jacket.

"Thanks, it's a good place. Most of the people who live in the house work here at the facility."

I followed Ace out to the kitchen, which was no bigger than a small dining table with two chairs. My stomach churned because we had to stand so close to each other to get a seat.
