The wood burning scent from the bonfire envelops Ashmar's backyard and enters my nostrils as the cold Christmas weather bites my skin.
January is really as cold as December.
Though the clock doesn't strike 12 o' clock it's practically January. In just twenty minutes we're in the New year.

I lean my head on Zahir's shoulder, snake my arms around his back and pull the blanket over our lower body.

They're barely watching the movie as they reflect on the year. Talk about their accomplishments and pass around the resolution notebook.
Each person skips a page and write their own resolutions. That way, their aspirations are confidential.
"Mi used to spend a lot so I want to stop spending recklessly," Zahira says.
"So write it nuh Niyah," Rushawn says in a hush tone.

They're so cute!
She smiles at him sweetly and starts scribbling. When she's done she flips it to the next page and hands it to Zahir.
As he writes I listen as Ashmar talks about all the crazy stuff that he has accomplished this year.
And the crazier stuff he's looking forward to do in the new year.
This nigga wild as hell.
"Mi cyaa take him dutty style enuh," Kasi laughs boisterously. It's impossible to not laugh too.
"Wah you grateful for Taj?" Zai ask me.
"Well in just two months my business made me roughly half a million. For a 17 year old it's a lot," I smile.
They congratulate me warmly.
"Thanks Guys. Unuh make me feel like a big bad boss lady," I say, feeling myself.
