Learn the Oni form from Lord Garmadon. How hard could that be?
The short answer is incredibly.
As the oni form was access through anger and dark emotions Garmadon did all in his power to build upon Lloyd's already existing grief.
But it seemed that the green ninja was stubborn and continued to swallow his emotions. "The oni form comes from within, you must embrace all your emotions, your anger... and frustration and release it! Garmadon lectured Lloyd.
Lloyd turned away from him. He thought of anger and what it meant to be anger. He thought of a storm, he thought of its howling winds and it flowed roughly through trees. He could imagine cold winds sending shivers down his spine as dark clouds rolled in carrying thunder and lightning.
Then he thought of her. He thought of how her eyes shined in the sparks of lightning, how her hair whipped around in the breeze. Anger came so naturally to her. He could feel it warm his veins but he couldn't react to it.
He met Garmadon's eyes with a fierce glare. He desperately wanted to know why whenever he thought of anger he thought of (y/n), her anger was so potent that the skies would react to her fury.
He lunged used every spinjitzu ability her knee of to channel his anger, but nothing, he eventually stumbled and fell. "You're doing it with your body and but not with you mind! Garmadon scowled at him.
"With my mind?" Lloyd questioned.
"Yes! With the connection between your mind and soul," Garmadon lectured, and Lloyd's confused look almost made Garmadon want to rip his arms off in frustration. "The inside of your personal reality. You must find it, feel it and crush it. Only when you have conquered your inner form, can you control your outer from! Now try again!" Garmadon screeched at Lloyd.
"Assume your oni stance and spin!" Garmadon yelled at Lloyd but yet again another failure. "Somehow that was more terrible." Garmadon grumbled. "How are you not getting this? I imagine you spent hours with one of the ferocious and hot tempered women in Ninjago, how did any of that not rub off on you?"
Jay stepped in, "simmer down, he's doing what you said."
"You keep changing the rules, saying different stuff," Cole spoke up.
"I don't think he has any clue on how to achieve oni form," Kai added.
"Wrong! You must give up control and give into your rage!" Garmadon snapped at them. "Let me ask you a different question Lloyd, when were you ever angry enough that you'd take a life?"
He never had to be that kind of mad because she would be angry enough for the both of them.
But he had felt that rage before. It was for a fleeting moment but with was enough for Lloyd to loose control and take Harumi's life. When Lloyd looked at Garmadon, Garmadon finally understood. "You have felt it before, it burns inside you even now," Garmadon began to pace around him. "How many times have you saved Ninjago and fate has taken everything from you?"
Lloyd tried to swallow that anger. It was suffocating. It was a terrible mix of emotions, revenge, regret, anger, sadness, all pooled to pull him into darkness.
"(Y/n)!" He screamed, if there was any time he needed her ghost it would be now.
And there she was.
Finally.
In the shadow she glimmered. Her back was turned to him. Everything stood still, he felt like he was floating in a void, as he turned his attention towards her. He desperately needed to see that cocky grin, that confidence that she radiated, a victory over death. But there was something off about the spectre. When she turned around, no warmth greeted him, her stare was blank, her empty. He searched desperately in her (e/c) orbs but found pools of resentment. "Why do they always praise you?" The spectre ask, it wasn't her voice, it was distorted, nearly demonic even.
"What do you mean?" He asked her, "what's wrong with you (y/n)?"
"Nothing is wrong with me," she replied, "but everything is wrong with you, the mighty green ninja, too weak to protect anything and too meek to seek revenge."
Words raced through Lloyd's mind but no sound came from his mouth, "you're a disappointment, you're nothing but an over grown child pretending to be a hero and crying when everything crumbles," she snarled at him.
"Shut up!" He snapped at her.
"Everyone is cautious around you because they know if they tell you you the truth you'll crumble, just as you always do," she snarled as she got into his face.
"Twice I've died, and twice you've let my killers roam free. You don't have it in you, you don't have guts, you've always needed me to do your dirty work because you're too scared of going against your morals," she glowered at him.
They were basically nose to nose as their eyes met.
"Stand back (y/n)," Lloyd hissed.
"And what are you going to do, cry? Because you're weak, Ninjago will be shrouded in darkness, all because you're too weak to give in..." she stepped back. "Actually you don't have it in you, you're so weak willed that no one fears you, villains can murder your family and they did because they knew they'd get away with it and that you'd do nothing."
"(Y/n) I was in prison there was nothing I could do," he glowered.
"Excuses!" She roared at him, "what excuse shall you give when everyone dies because of you."
That was enough. Lloyd roared in anger as a purple flame was summoned to his hand. Her hurled the power at her and she vanished, "you're not (y/n)," he muttered to himself. It was his mind playing tricks on him, it had to be.
Everything began to fade in, Garmadon's rambling came back and the voices of his friends sounded more clear. It was a trick of his mind, the dark thought he kept locked away surfacing.
"Lloyd! Your hands are purple!" Kai yelled to Lloyd.
Lloyd looked to his hands, a purple flame enveloped them. In that instant the rage that summoned them vanished as he flapped his hands about in a panic.
"What are you doing? Don't stop!"
Garmadon roared at Lloyd as the dark fire was snuffed out.
Lloyd didn't want to face the darkness, nor the demons that waited for him there. Garmadon shoved Lloyd, "I'm trying to save your miserable city from the Overlord himself and at the first sign of success, you lose your nerve?" Garmadon yelled at him.
"He is doing his best brother," Wu argued in Lloyd's defence.
Garmadon shoved Lloyd to the ground, "his best is inadequate! It's clear you have been too soft on him," Garmadon glowered at Wu. "You are a poor teacher."
Lloyd got to his feet. For a second Garmadon replaced (y/n), it was like his reality was distorted, for a second he saw (y/n) and then Garmadon, he couldn't tell what was real or not.
He felt as if he was losing his mind, "I knew bringing you here was a bad idea! But you just went too far" Lloyd snapped at Garmadon.
"Yeah, nobody insults master Wu!" Cole chimed in.
"We are wasting valuable time, our city is being over run while we argue," Zane reminded.
"Yeah. Enough of this nonsense. We need to get out there and save the city the old fashioned way, with smarts and ninja skills," Cole chimed.
"Logically every second we delay reduces our chances of victory by-"
"So be it!" Garmadon snapped, cutting Zane off. "Despite the brilliance of my instruction, it is apparent to me that some people simply cannot be helped." Garmadon stood face to face with Lloyd, "especially those that are coward in the face of their own inner darkness," he said lowly. "So tell me how do you defeat an enemy whose very existence mutes your elemental powers and renders your vehicles useless?"
"With these," Pixal said, changing the mood and revealing new vehicles.
And with that the lesson in anger was gone and to battle the ninja went.
