So how could i not write today!
I woke up at about 11:30 because summer, and i went downstairs to check my phone. It was blowing up with twitter notifications, facebook notifications, kiks and texts messages. The first thing i did was check my texts, and the messages were from my friend camryn. They were pictures of articles stating that the supreme court had legalized gay marriage everywhere in america just an hour earlier. My twitter, facebook, instagram, kik and snapchat were exploding, full of celebrations. I cried this morning.
Its been a hard week, since i just got cut from my schools show choir. But today i am remembering a moment from show choir this year. We were doing an exercise to get to know eachother better, where a person you dont know that well would ask you questions about yourself. A junior named jesse came up to me with a group of upperclassmen behind him, and he asked me a couple questions. The last one, I remember clearly.
"If you were president of the united states, what is the first thinf you would do?"
I though for a split second before i answered.
"I would make gay marriage legal everywhere in the US."
"Good answer."
That was back in October? Or November?
Now, for the record, it is June 26th, 2015, 1:29 pm, and gay marriage is now legal everywhere in the United States.
I am bursting at the seams with happiness. Sure, i may not identify as gay or bi, but i am so damn happy and proud of my country today for making marriage equality legal. My friend, who came out to me in October and I have been texting all morning, celebrating. I am so amazed and overwhelmed. I dont care if this is cheesy, becuase i am really proud. Today, love wins.
What a day to be alive.
