"You are really completely incompetent Aveline!"The voice was shrill and sharp, like nails digging into her skull and twisting into her brain. She recognized the voice, that was certain. But her consciousness was drifting from her like a tide. Was she here? Was she there? Was she where? Confusion was at the forefront of all of her thoughts.
The sudden feeling of someone pulling her hair pulled her into conscious, and the girl looked up to see her own face staring down at her.
"Mother," she groaned, instantly closing her eyes and wishing she could be anywhere else.
"Please don't sound so excited to see me," the woman smiled, crossing her arms and glaring down at her daughter. "Apathy isn't a good look on you Aveline. It looks like it's already giving you premature wrinkles . You really should invest in a skin smoothing serum, or you'll look 40 in 5 years.
Aveline didn't react. The girl was laying on the ground, her arms covering her face praying she would wake up from whatever nightmare she was in. Truthfully she would rather go back to Fenrir Greyback then deal with her passive aggressive mother.
"Did I die?" Aveline whispered. "Is this hell?"
She could feel something almost damp beneath her back, and as she moved around she was certain it was the feeling of cold and wet soil.
"Oh Aveline you are so overly dramatic," Eleanore sighed, "You really should be more grateful. Most girls your age would be thrilled to have divine communication with their dead mothers."
"Most girls my age have Mothers who aren't mass murderers," Aveline snapped back.
She finally dared to open her eyes, and was met by the site of green. So much green it nearly burnt her eyes, and she realized she was in a forest? A forest with leafy tropical trees to be specific, so dense she could barely see the sun peaking through the upper canopy.
"Are you really on this again? You need to learn to let things go," Eleanore countered, staring down at her daughter still laying in the dirt. "Get up. You have things to do."
Without another word, the girls mother started to walk a way from her. Aveline was certain she must have hit her head very hard and was hallucinating, for as she looked up she saw Eleanore Rosier wearing jeans and T-shirt?
The Eleanore she knew wouldn't be caught dead in anything less then a skirt and some pumps, and here she was in Jeans stained with dirt and worn with wear. This was enough to peak Aveline's interest, as she jumped up from the ground and ran after her mother.
The air was moist with humidity, Aveline dodging branches of trees that flung in her face.
Eleanore kept walking, skillfully slicing the branches away with a gold knife she had pulled out of her pocket.
Eventually the woman stopped dead in her tracks, coming to stop in a clearing so wide it looked like an asteroid had taken out all the vegetation.
"This will do," Eleanore sighed, dusting her hands off on her jeans.
Before Aveline could react, the woman whipped around, grabbing Aveline by the neck and tossing her into the clearing with a surprising amount of strength.
Aveline hit the ground, rolling on her back and taking a mouthful of dirt with her as she did.
"What the— MOM," Aveline exclaimed as she dodged a flying fist coming to her face.
She quickly scrambled to her feet, her cheeks smushed with mud and curly hair matted to her the side of her head. Her breathe wracked in her chest as she observed her mother, the woman's casual stance as she twirled the knife in her hand unsettling.
