The days seemed to pass with the flurry of the start of the year. Classes were beginning to start in full swing, Aveline already having a stack of papers to grade.

For the most part, she quite enjoyed teaching. The students were rather enjoyable to be around— despite the Slytherins who seemed to take a dislike to the muggleborn Elowen Grey.

As the September days began climb higher and higher, Aveline was very aware they were approaching the first full moon of the school year.

As the astronomy teacher, she had to keep up with the moon cycles. For the first full moon marked the first time she would take her upper year students to the astronomy tower.

Though as someone who loved Remus Lupin? She kept up with the moon by noticing the way the man's energy seemed to drain little by little.

She was trying to keep her distance, but merlin was it hard. For starters, it seemed as if Remus was purposely trying to run into her. Secondly, all she wanted to do was run up to him and hug him till their bodies fused together.

It was a Wednesday morning. A rather dreadful Wednesday morning a couple days before the full moon.

The great hall was relatively empty, just a handful
of Professors and keener students eating breakfast.

From the corner of her eye, Aveline was watching Remus. The way his head slumped forward, his brown eyes framed by heavy eye bags that came with the full moon.

He barely had anything on his plate, the man clutching a cup of black coffee as if it was his lifeline.

He got up, pushing away his plate and heading out of the great hall.

Aveline couldn't help it, her feet pulled her up and suddenly she was following him out.

"Lupin!" she called, catching the door behind him.

He paused, at first looking annoyed then smiling when he saw it was her.

"Oh Goodmorning Elowen. How are you?" He said kindly, despite the fact Aveline could tell he was exhausted.

She sent him a kind smile back, "I'm well thank you. Are you doing alright? I couldn't help but notice you looked a little tired at breakfast."

He smiled back, though Aveline could tell it was forced. There was sadness behind his eyes, though he hid it well.

"Just stayed up late marking that's all. Though I may be coming down with something. Woke up rather flushed this morning."

Aveline nodded, "Well if there's anything you ever need. Just ask me alright? Anything. I mean it."

Remus gave her an odd look, his eyes slightly narrowed. She bit her lip, internally cursing herself. She had taken things too far. She should've just asked him how he was.

"Thanks Elowen. I appreciate it."

"No problem," Aveline stuttered, turning on her feet. "Have a good rest of your day Lupin."

And Aveline practically sprinted away as if her feet were on fire.

A day later — in a very non shocking turn of events — Remus Lupin was absent.

Aveline was made aware of this by Minvera Mcgonagall cornering her in the morning before breakfast and asking if she could cover a fourth year DADA class.

"Isn't that usually Alastor's class though?" Aveline asked.

Moody and Remus split the DADA classes. Usually, Moody taught the fourth, sixth and seventh years, whereas Remus taught the first, second, third and fifth years.
