With the coldness of the evening air hitting her face, Aveline ran with the quickness of fear.
She had froze back there. For the first time ever, Aveline Rosier froze under pressure.
She was a auror for merlin's sake. She had fought the dark lord multiple times. And Igor Karkaroff is what made her freeze?
She was half aware where she was going, though her feet and body moved on autopilot.
Before she knew it she found herself standing infront of the statue of the one eyed witch— just as she had many times in her youth.
It didn't take long for her to find herself surronded by the chilly Hogsmeades air, her site set on the warm lights of the three broomsticks.
She paused as she caught site of herself in the reflection of the window— a gnarly looking bruise already forming on the side of her face. She looked down at her palms, still covered in glass in blood.
She couldn't walk in like this. Certainly her friends would all look at her as if she had two heads.
She took a step back, looking around to see where she could quickly go to clean herself up.
She should probably just go back to Hogwarts, though the thought of being alone in her room made her sick.
"Aveline."
The sound of the door squeeking open caught her attention as she looked up to see Remus walking towards her.
His expression changed from joyful to confused to concerned the closer he got— taking in the look of her face and the site of her blood hands.
Remus rushed to her, his brown eyes looking her up and down as his brows furrowed. His gentle hand finding the side of her face, ever so softly touching her swollen skin as if he was scared to hurt her more.
"Ave," he choked out.
Remus couldn't stand to see her hurt.
He had spent their entire youth watching her— the person he loved most in the world— get hurt time and time again.
Remus felt so helpless then. He was just a boy who didn't know how to manage the scary world of purebloods and war.
Though he was a full grown man now. He should be able to protect her, yet here they were standing in the cold and her eyes were blood shot and full of tears, her face was beaten and bruised and their was blood on her soft delicate hands.
"What happened?" he whispered, softly picking up her hands and holding them in his.
He was so gentle it nearly made her cry. He was such a contrast, to the violent and loud Igor. The soft way he touched her skin, the careful way he picked her hands up.
Even the way he looked at her— soft, gentle, caring.
"It's all good," she answered him, though her voice was shaking as were hands. "There was just an incident with Igor. Nothing I can't handle."
The anger the moved across Remus's face was so potent Aveline almost flinched
"I promise it's fine," she tried to reason.
