There's not much you say to Aveline that would shock her. She was used to pretty much every shocking or life altering event that could happen to a person.
Though every now and then Aveline could indeed by shocked.
She was beginning to sense a pattern— everytime something genuinely shocked her it usually was something that came out of Albus Dumbledore's mouth.
"You want me to what?" Aveline asked, her head tilted and jaw dropped.
Albus Dumbledore had asked her to do some peculiar things over the years — go along with a fake wedding, die— but this was perhaps the weirdest?
"You have my word, it will only be for a year," he told her.
Part of her hoped he would start laughing, so that was just a funny joke.
Dumbledore had made a simple request:
He didn't want her to alert anyone to the fact she was alive. Even Remus and James were off limits. Partially for their safety, and partially because Dumbledore was not certain who exactly who to trust (despite the fact Aveline told him multiple times Remus and James could be trusted).
Though, Dumbledore also valued Aveline as a witch and human being. As he put it, her talents were wasted hidden away.
No, Dumbledore wanted her in the action. He wanted her trained auror eyes and ears to aid him in figuring out whatever the actual fuck was going on.
So what was his plan?
It was simple in the eyes of Albus Dumbledore.
Aveline Rosier would assume the identity of someone else. She'd have a fake name, new hair, a new back story—new face.
And what did he want her to do?"
Teach Astronomy at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardy.
"I assure you it will be simple Aveline," Dumbledore explained, "I will arrange a new identity for you, all you have to do is assume the new identity."
Her eyes were glued to the flickering fire. Part of her wished the flames would reach out and consume her.
"Fine," she muttered. "I'll do it. But not for long."
"A year?"
Aveline narrowed her eyes, "Six months."
"Nine Months," he countered.
Part of Aveline wanted to scream at Dumbledore to go fuck himself. All she wanted to do was burst through the door of this stupid little cabin, and run and run until somehow she found her way to Remus Lupin.
She wanted to feel the warmth of his skin, and actually talk to him— fall asleep with her head listening to his beating heart.
Though when Dumbledore asked you to do something, he wasn't really asking.
As much as he framed the question as if Aveline had a choice, she knew the truth —
Aveline had no free will in the matter. She would have to do what he said— assume the identity of someone else for the time being.
Dumbledore left shortly after that, telling Aveline that for now she was to hunker down in this tiny cabin and wait for him to come back.
So she did just that, letting her head hit the pillow.
