The days between christmas and new years stretched as if they were a separate system from the normal tick of human time. It was the day after the Yule Ball, and already Aveline had felt like she had lived ten lives since the end classes.

Today, was going to be a good day. A great day even.

They had over a week until the start of classes once again, and Remus and Aveline wanted to make the most of it.

"Are you almost packed love?" Remus called from the washroom.

He was flossing his teeth, and Aveline was scrambling around her room trying to pack a suitcase.

They were going on a simple trip— if you could call it trip. They were going to spend a few days with James and Lily, visit Remus's dad and spend a night or two in Remus's cottage.

Aveline was bubbling with excitement, her only problem was that all her clothes were Elowen Grey's clothes. And though the clothes were nice, they weren't Aveline's clothes.

Besides, she was a horrible packer. The concept of packing a suitcase made her head spin.

"Everything well?" Remus asked again, emerging from the bathroom.

Aveline was on the ground staring at a pile of clothes on the ground, a defeated slump in her shoulders.

Remus dropped down next to her, a hand reaching out to brush her hair to the side of her neck.

"Penny for your thoughts?" he asked.

Aveline sighed in frustration, smacking the pile of clothes.

"All of this is stupid Elowen Grey," she told him, clear emotion in her voice. "And I'm not Elowen. I'm Aveline. And if I show up as Elowen —" she paused, cutting herself off.

She realized she was scared. She was scared to see her friends. What if they didn't like her? What if things were awkward?

She knew she had already seen them, but this would be different.

Aveline sighed— why did everything have to be so complicated?

Remus was watching her carefully.

"You know Aveline," he began carefully, "it's alright if you are a little nervous to see our friends."

She snapped her head towards him. "How did you know that I was thinking that?"

He chuckled, grabbing her hand and squeezing it tightly in his.

"I know you," he said simply. "And I promise it'll be okay. Besides, I'm going to be there. I got you. Always. Don't forget that?"

He placed a kiss on the back of her hand, rising from the ground to finish up in the bathroom.

It didn't take long for Aveline to pack after that, flicking her wand and letting whatever wanted to go in her suitcase pack itself.
