Whispers were moving through the hallways of Hogwarts like the wind.

Have you had class with Professor Grey yet?

I heard she turned her classroom into the sky!

Elowen Grey had a way of turning the otherwise rather dull study of astronomy into something exciting. There was a buzz in the air as the students left her class, and Aveline was beginning to wonder if she was feeling inspired?

Just as she was about to head to lunch, there was a tap tap on her window. A black owl holding a parchment envelope in its mouth.

She retrieved the letter, giving the owl a pat on its head.

Elowen,

Please meet me in my office as soon as possible.

Albus

______

Dumbledore's office was exactly as Aveline remembered. There was the many shelves of odd magical knick knacks. The same bowl of candies sitting on a crystal looking table.

"Aveline," Dumbledore greeted, he was staring down at something intensely at his desk. As he spottted her, he stopped what he was doing and waved her in. "Please sit."

Even though it had been less then a full day, it was relieving having someone call her by her real
name.

"Albus," Aveline began immediately, anger laced into her tone. "Why on earth would you not tell me the Triwizard Tournament? Or about Alastor? If there is anyone who is going to know it's me, it's him. I'm starting to rethink this all, what's the real point Albus? What's the point in hiding this from Alastor, from Remus, from Minvera? What's the harm in them knowing?"

She didn't intend to go in guns blazing, but the second she saw the man's face she couldn't help it.

His face was stern, his jaw clenched as he started at Aveline. "As I've explained, it's for the best—"

"For the best-" Aveline scoffed. She hadn't sat down, she was pacing infront of his desk. Angry— Aveline was angry. "Ever since I was 15 Albus, I listened to you. I went through with a wedding, broke up with the love of my life, I went to auror school, I died— I did everything right. I can't do this anymore. I just can't. I'm telling Remus it's me. I'm done."

She crossed her arms in a huff. She knew it had only been one day, but this was years building up of being pushed and pulled and told what to do.

All Aveline wanted was a normal life. With Remus. In their cottage.

"The Dark Lord is rising again-"

"Bullshit!" Aveline exclaimed, stepping forward and slamming her hand down at the table. "Bullshit. Where's your proof?"

Dumbledore eyes narrowed, a darkness over taking in them that was uncommon to the man. He stood up from his seat, towering over Aveline as he looked into her eyes.

"The death eaters attack at the Quidditch work cup this summer, the dark mark hanging over the site of burnt tents, muggleborn being hung upside down, the disappearance of ministry officials. Something is on the rise Aveline. I expected more out of you. The Aveline Rosier I knew would the be the first willing to join the fight. Though it appears I may have overestimated you. By all means Aveline, if you are done you are welcome to hide from it all. Take Mr. Lupin and go run off into hiding. But by doing that, you are throwing away all the sacrifices you have made. Now, if you excuse me, I have lunch to get too."

__________

Lunch became unappealing to Aveline, and thus she found herself wandering the grounds. The end of summer glow was upon Hogwarts. The bright sun illuminating the green trees, making the plants seem to glow.

The sun always made her feel better, as if it was recharging every single cell in her body. It softened the confusion in her mind, made her breathing turn from laboured to calm.

What was Aveline to do?

She respected Dumbledore. She trusted his judgement.

Though she felt as if guilt was eating her away. As if guilt were angry little bugs nawing on her stomach and bones.

Would her friends feel betrayed she was alive and pretending to be someone else?

The caught of someone stumbling across the courtyard caught her eye.

It was Madeye, the man walking like he was on a mission. Angrily trying to move faster than his peg leg could carry him.

Aveline tucked herself behind a tree, carefully observing the man.

There was something off about him. Even for a man who was known for being Mad, he was acting extra mad.  She watched as he hastily pulled a flask out his jacket, taking a large swig.

"Alastor!" She called, stepping out from the tree and jogging to catch up with the man. "Alastor Moody right? I don't think we've met. My name is Elowen Grey—"

"Yes yes yes," the man rushed her with a hand motion, "astronomy teacher. I know. Hardly a real subject."

Aveline decided it was best to laugh at this, sending him a polite smile. "You know I admire you work—"

"Many do," he cut her off, "is there a point to this conversation or are you just wasting my time?"

She was taken aback. This was rude, even for Alastor. She hid her offended look behind her polite smile.

Something was off about him. There must be something larger weighing on his mind that Aveline wasn't aware about.

She began to really wonder, why was Alastor here? Dumbledore must've had his reasons, and she was pretty sure it wasn't because he really wanted the man to teach defensive against the dark arts.

"Just thought I'd say hi," Aveline explained.

"Well no need to do that ever again," he spat, turning from her and walking with that odd pattern.

Aveline couldn't resist. This was the man who had practically engrained into her the power of observation and a keen eye. Despite her better judgement she followed him.

"Say Alastor, did you injure your foot?" She asked.

This got his attention, the man glancing at her from the side of his mechanical eye.

"No," her barked. "I thought I told me to leave you alone."

"Certainly Sir," she responded politely. "Have a good rest of your day."

Something was off with him, and Aveline was determined to figure out what.
