Please be someone good, please be someone good, you prayed, watching the bottle spin around and around. It slowed and finally stopped, landing on . . .

“Penis Parker!” Flash shouted gleefully. “You’re in for a real treat, Y/N.” Your friends all gave you sympathetic looks as you awkwardly stood up and went into the closet, wishing the floor of the basement you were in would just open up and swallow you whole.

Peter carefully shut the door behind him, plunging you into temporary darkness until you finally pulled out your phone and turned the flashlight on. In front of you was a chain cord, so you tugged on it and were pleased when a small lightbulb on the ceiling flickered on. The closet you were in was fairly roomy, with only a few coats and boxes inside.

Peter was still standing against the door, like he was trying to be as far away from you as possible. Looking at him, you realized that you couldn’t remember the last time you’d spoken to him, or if you’d ever even spoken to him, period. “Um,” you started to say, but he cut you off.

“Look, I already know I’m the last person you want to be in here with, so you don’t have to say anything,” he said in a rush, avoiding making eye contact with you.

“That wasn’t what I was going to say,” you said, a little annoyed. “And honestly, I don’t really want to be in here with anyone, so. Don’t take it personally.”

He finally met your eyes, and your brain chose that moment to stupidly note that they were brown. “Oh.”

“Yeah.” You glanced at your phone and saw only a minute had passed. You slid down the wall until you were sitting on the floor, sprawling your feet out in front of you. At Peter’s questioning look, you said, “We have six more minutes left. Might as well get comfy.”

He shrugged and sat down too, leaning against the door. “I’m a little surprised to see you here, honestly,” you said. “I didn’t know you went to parties.”

“I don’t, usually,” he said. “Ned’s got a crush on some girl in his math class and she mentioned she’d be here, so here we are.”

“Ah.” You vaguely recalled walking through the kitchen and seeing Ned eagerly talking to a pretty girl, gesturing emphatically about who-knows-what. “Well, are you at least enjoying yourself?”

“Eh,” Peter said, shrugging again. “It’s okay. I’m not really a heavy drinker, so.”

“Me neither,” you said. “I mostly just play DD for my friends so they can get trashed and not have to worry about getting home safely.”

“That’s pretty cool of you,” Peter said, sounding impressed.

You smiled a little. “It’s nothing. Thanks, though.”

A beat passed between you before he said, “How much time do we have left?”

You checked your phone. “Five minutes. Got any deep, dark secrets you wanna share?”

You were joking, but Peter said, “Yeah, actually.” Leaning forward, he raised his eyebrows at you and said confidentially, “I’m Spider-Man.”

You blinked at him for a second before you laughed. “Yeah, and I’m Black Widow.”
