Author's note: In honor of Pride Month, I shall be releasing 2 chapters today!
Wednesday's pov:
Fading back from a sword's slash that quickly turned to a quick stab, Wednesday fought the urge to slip on the moist leaves below her. Making her anger simmer even louder than the crunching leaves she kept stepping on, which shouted to her mother where she was. On the contrary, she kept quiet about where her mother was.
Duking and delivering a stab to where the red crystal heart was, she felt the wind laugh at her. She had missed once again and was cornered into an opening that gave her mother the advantage she needed to win. Rolling to her side and getting up she aimed to where she sensed the cold blade of her mother. Slamming and scratching it with what seemed like uncontrolled swings.
The tree line must be over here, she thinks as she pushes her mother back. The sharpening noises of the swords drowned the leaves crunching, making it difficult for her to pinpoint where the treeline was. If the crunching got louder, she was close, while if it was lighter, she was far.
With a side step, she felt thick roots and felt the splash of leaves she made. NOW!
Ducking low and delivering a roundhouse to the leaves, she cleared the area of any traps and whistle blowers. Allowing her to creep low around the tree, her mother's body was used as a guide to return to the treeline opening.
From her hiding spot, she heard the light footsteps get louder along with the bark's whispering under her mother's gloves. Shooting up and stabbing a knife in front of her mother, she thrust her sword. But like always, she felt air run through the blade rather than flesh or glass.
NO, NO, NO, NO! She grits her teeth as her mother turns her plan against her by circling the tree, a slow chase to see who would strike next.
"Still bringing a knife to a sword fight. Mmmmm," says her mother with disapproval. "No honor in that Wednesday."
Sealing her lips, she couldn't help but return the jab to her mother mentally. How could she speak of honor if ragebaiting her was a cheap cheat to get her to expose where she was?
Luckily, her mother chose to break the silence once more by attacking. Once more their blades crossed. The tinging and slashing of the blades with the flames' applause became louder. Neither of them was going to take baits anymore. Neither of them was going to yield.
BAM! BAM! BAM! Went the sound of numerous gunshots. Loud screams echoed faster than the bullets' war cries. The shouts in Romanian.
Wednesday froze for a second. Her attention was crashed out of her tunnel vision and into a runway of speeding thoughts. So many thoughts running her over, not giving her time to get up and catch one to diagnose it to see what it was trying to make her remember. What traumatic point of that night with Crackstone?
Turning her head towards the camp side, her mother wacked the sword out of her grip.
Wha- the sound of a shattering heart told her everything she needed to know.
Tearing the blindfold off, she glared at the missing heart on her chest. "You speak of honor, yet you used an underhanded method to defeat me. One that wasn't your idea."
"All is fair in love and war," is all Mortica says, as she takes off her blindfold. The shouts had now finally reached her mother. "PUGSLEY!"
Wednesday turns and sees a purple light disappear quickly as it had appeared. Terror now filled her cold veins. Putting them into overdrive as she heard Enid's screams and the quietness of the guns. Grabbing her discarded sword, she ran as fast as she could to the camp.
