Y/N's pov:

After what felt like an hour but really was 20 minutes for the speed of a Vampire and a Demon, you both found yourselves at the very unfinished Underground Railroad station Simon had mentioned a few nights ago.

Taking in the view, the station's platform was just piled dirt, and the tracks had yet to be laid. The entrance to the station was just a creaky ladder. The door to said entrance now had plants leaking through its hinges. Hiding any sunlight from entering, along with fresh air. Hiding the hidden history from all who didn't know where to look for it and from those like yourself who did.

"Looks like we're about 16 miles from where the cabin is." Evelynn nods at the information as she kicks rocks.

"The mines are what stopped the production here, no?" She picks up a dirty quartz she had just found from the aftereffect of her kick.

"I assume so. They are close to this area after all. But also this damn fucking town has always been against human rights and treating thy neighbor with love while they hump the living shit out of the bible. Yet they call us Vampires and outcasts the sinners- the embodiment of using God's words in vain."

Evelynn coughs. "Sorry."

"You're fine," she says as she walks up to you. Rubbing your arm gently as her eyes caress your face. "It's natural to be done with normies. They do, after all, tend to backstab people."

You step away but agree with her nicely. "Agree, but there is hope. I mean, have you seen Lance? Isha? Simon and Daphney? Hell, even Mayor Walker's son is changing for the better!"

The demoness smiles at your words as you wave your arms frantically as if you were giving a presentation. Seeing that smile, you let out a mental sigh of relief that you had at least successfully gotten the blonde out of the mentality of discrimination and destruction. Allowing you to continue to search for another exit within the station.

What Evelynn had pointed out was true: the mining area was close. Although it was small, it still reached close to where the secret station was. And if the agents of the Underground Railroad had to stop building the station, it must've meant the mining company must've gotten close to where they were. Looking around and using the shadows to find any darker areas within the hideout, you came up empty. The only opening was the one above.

Sitting on the makeshift platform of the station, you lean back and look at the ceiling. In the complete darkness, the roots looked like the limbs of monsters trying to claw at you. Hoping to tear you apart. Some of the roots were even skinny and thick at the same time like a Hyde's arm. Clawing at your mind, tossing around information you had along with your frustration. Evelynn joins in the fun by sitting next to you and crossing her legs as she checks her nails.

"What am I missing again?" you mutter. Kicking your legs into the dirt.

"Maybe you need to change the angle you're seeing things from?" whispers Evelynn. You laugh, but keep looking up at the overgrown ceiling above. From the wooden door above, the sound of rain trickles through, followed by a drop of water hitting the top step of the ladder.

You ignore it. Another one echoes through the station. Running through the station like thunder. Soon another followed by another. Each one was slow and steady, but the loudness was clear as the sunlight.

Glancing at the bunker door, you scan for where the water could be entering. There, just barely peaking through the other vegetation, was a small leaf. Water glided down slowly, its steam, and slid into the leaf before hanging from the tip. It hung there for a minute before deciding to jump down to the top step, causing a loud ripple through the shallow darkness below.
