Ronald Weasley Released from Azkaban with Strong Support from Friends
May 8, 2000
Ronald Weasley has been released from Azkaban today, with Harry Potter-Black and Draco Potter-Black publicly supporting him. Despite Weasley's past actions, including attacks on Draco, the Potters have expressed forgiveness and pride in Weasley for taking responsibility.
Weasley will return to Hogwarts under the supervision of Headmistress Minerva McGonagall as part of his reintegration and probation. Meanwhile, Draco Potter-Black's own probationary period for war crimes is set to end shortly, allowing him to fully rejoin the wizarding community.
Both Weasley's release and Draco's full reintegration symbolize a new beginning and a hopeful future for the wizarding world, emphasizing themes of reconciliation and moving forward.
Ron had been court ordered to remain at school, as long as Draco now felt safe with him there and Draco hadn't even hesitated when asked if he was ok with his attacker going back and sharing his classes. Ron was also now, understandably, very behind in his work.
Three months in Azkaban had somewhat changed him, Harry saw his best friend was back but also saw that he had matured. So, while everyone was revising for exams which were coming up fast Harry and Draco had chosen to join the crew of people helping Ron catch up. The study sessions they had started earlier that year were now together every afternoon and evening to go over the course work, quiz each other and help Ron. Also it made it easy to keep an eye on Antonio and Natalia.
Antonio was easy because he knew they were watching him, Natalia on the other hand was oblivious to their suspicions. Ron had been taken aside by Harry as soon as his hearing was over to inform him of their situation and a week later it was still warming Harry's heart to recognize the Ron he had always loved... Though totally platonically.
Harry told him the whole story, now that he was out, Ron deserved to know that he was partially a victim too. That the whole time he was feeling the way he was someone else had been using and manipulating his feelings. The spell that Hermione had found was actually pretty easy to negate if you knew what to look for and two days after returning from Azkaban Ron had come to Draco and Harry's dorms saying he was pretty sure Natalia had tried to cast the spell on him once more.
Draco placed a hand on Ron's chest and lo and behold the spell was present trying to worm it's way into Ron's heart and brain with suggestive hatred. Of course this time around hatred was not a regular feeling he would have towards Draco so it felt foreign. This was what alerted him to the possibility the spell had been placed on him, that was music to Harry's ears and while he didn't think Draco and Ron would be besties anytime soon. He had hope that one day they could focus on their commonalities rather than their differences.
Especially when Ron genuinely thanked Draco for getting rid of the spell.
Over the week Ron had been out, Draco had not felt that Ron would go back to the way he was but he had not prepared to be so amicable with him so easily. Harry was as happy as could be seeing his best friend and husband able to get along but it threw Draco a bit that he would sometimes forget that Ron was a part of the conversation. Enough so that he found that where strategy was concerned he often agreed with the ginger.
He had been neutral in the beginning of the year, partially feeling like he deserved the treatment from Ron at the time but he had never felt any kind of kinship or matehood towards Ron. The other Weasley's he had become friendly with but Ron had always been the thorn in his side. He saw Ron sometimes felt the same and a flash of not believing that this was his life now flittered across Ron's face too. But, he couldn't deny there were things they both agreed on and they often shared a similar biting humorous sarcasm that could be mean at times.
