Harry and Draco landed in among their friends and family, who were working together to keep everyone safe, trapped in a ring of Lucius's followers. Now that Draco had shown up glowing white light from the flight, the Dementors backed off, Draco's light magic acting like a patronus all on its own. Though Harry did notice they were even afraid of his darkness too, seeming to shy away from him as he flew down.
Harry also saw the way Lucius took in the magic Draco wielded, realizing that Draco had a ring of his own and that he had the power of light. The look was of rage and determination to kill, Harry knew that Lucius planned on trying to kill anyone who meant a thing to Harry and after seeing Draco too held the power he wanted, Lucius seemed to zone in on Draco.
But Lucius didn't actually know what he was getting into.
After they landed Lucius's army followed his instruction with each of the masked people taking the lead of smaller groups just as the ring bearers led the groups on their side. The battle commenced, though it was hardly a battle when really all Lucius's side was trying to do was isolate each group near the Dementors. They weren't being nice about it either, sending hexes that were just as deadly as the Unforgivables towards those Harry loved to push them back. Their plan seemed to be, making each group back away and into the awaiting grasps of the Dementors while Harry and Draco were trying to get Lucius and keep everyone safe, while also trying to not be separated either.
The largest group of followers were hammering at Harry and Draco and while the two of them weren't trying to kill or maim, just capture; Lucius's side was definitely going for the throat trying to separate them. It happened gradually but after a few minutes Draco and Harry realized that each of their groups were surrounded individually and being directed away from the other groups. Dementors closed in on groups that were furthest from the main battle between Lucius and Harry and Draco.
Harry was starting to get annoyed with the Dementors. Patronuses worked but only to get them away temporarily, with all the excitement and their orders the Dementors just wound up coming back. In addition their lack of lethal spells and only wanting to capture not hurt... in most cases, was causing no lasting damage. This ultimately gave the enemy time and a chance to recover, there were too many things to contend with to really make a difference.
If it had of been just one or the other, they all would have been able to take care of the problem easily but, with both followers and Dementors it was admittedly difficult. Honestly, Harry and Draco were wondering if taking it on by themselves would have been easier.
They could have unleashed themselves and there would just be nothing left, they could have let their magic come forth and destroyed the lot of them. Leaving the dementors no choice but to go back to Azkaban but, with the friends and family that knew of what was happening, there was no way they were letting them do it themselves, sometimes they thought the people who loved them forgot about the whole Life and Death thing. Right now though, they needed to get rid of the Dementors.
Harry was sick of dementors, he hated them as a creature and while every other creature in the wizarding world had a place for it and he didn't think any of them deserved to be destroyed. The dementors were evil and dark to the point of unnecessary, muggle prison systems worked just fine and they didn't have dementors sucking the souls slowly from the prisoners. No Harry would not care if they all just disappeared and never even returned to Azkaban.
Though they would likely just terrorize some other place, Harry wished there was a way to destroy Dementors not just repel them.
Harry was doing the bulk of the offensive fighting and Draco was on defense, they both knew a powerful patronus would be needed to really give them a reprieve from the creatures, James had the most powerful one and was doing a lot of the defense already. It just wasn't enough to get them all away, just as he would get rid of some, others would swoop down behind him and as he was pushing those back, the others would return. Harry could see him getting fatigued, not the young man he was used to being.
