“Since your due date is the day before your birthday, we thought we’d go for your birthday meal tonight,” Michael smiled to me as I sat at the table in the kitchen on my laptop.
“A meal?” I asked. “Six days before my due date; looking like a balloon and feeling like a whale.. and you think I’m up for going out for a meal?”
“Okay,” Michael laughed. “I’ll cancel it.”
“No, it sounds good,” I smiled, trying to tap on my laptop’s keys but my bump was in the way.

After we ordered our meals, we sat talking in little groups at the table, sipping on our drinks. While everyone else was drinking champagne and cocktails, I was on fresh orange juice.
“If our baby comes out bright orange, we know why,” George grinned, nicking a bit of my drink.
“If our baby comes out bright orange, we have a huge problem on our hands,” I giggled, rubbing my hand over my bump in a circular motion.
George continued grinning at me. “What?” I mouthed to him.
He shook his head as he took another sip of my drink through a straw, still grinning at me.
“I’m just going to the bathroom,” I smiled to everyone. “This baby evidently thinks my bladder is a toy.”
As I got up from the table and walked away, I heard George make up some excuse to follow me. Waiting around the corner of the toilets, I stood giggling to myself as I listened out for some footsteps.
“Sammy,” George said as he poked his head around the wall. “You do realise that hiding behind a wall isn’t the best hiding place when you’ve got a huge baby bump.”
“Shut up,” I grinned, putting my hand on the back of his neck and kissing him.
Pushing him backwards, we walked into the girls’ bathrooms and continued to kiss as I leaned against the door. “I’ve missed this,” George laughed in mid-kiss.
“Shut up,” I giggled, kissing him again.
We stood kissing for a few moments until I pulled away.
“Sammy,” George asked as he looked at me. “Did you just.. wet yourself?”
“George..” I said. “I think my waters have just broken.”
George looked at me as his jaw dropped to the floor. “You’re six days early.”
“I really don’t think this baby is going to wait six days..” I said. “This baby is coming.”
“Holy fuck!” George panicked. “Right, we need to get you to the hospital.”
“It’s fine,” I smiled, trying to remain calm even though I was freaking out on the inside. “I’m not even having contractions yet.”
“Sammy..”
“George..”
“Sammy..”
“George..”
“Sammy..”
“Okay, now I have,” I squirmed as a huge bolt of pain ripped through my stomach.

As George rushed me through the restaurant towards the door, mum and Michael hurried over to us in concern. “Sammy, what is it?” mum asked.
“She’s having the baby,” George grinned as I clutched onto him.
“Well is there anything we can do?” Michael asked.
“Get your coat,” mum said to Michael. “We’re coming with you.”
“Kayla, can you look after Jack for us?” Michael asked Kayla as he got his coat off the back of his chair.
“Sure,” Kayla smiled. “Good luck Sammy.”
“Sorry to rush your little catch-up but I’m kinda having a baby right here,” I said, grabbing onto George’s shirt as another bolt of pain hit me.
“Come on,” George grinned, helping me towards the door as Michael held the door open.
*
All the way to the hospital, I was laid on the backseat of the car crying in agony. “I hate you so much, George Shelley!” I screamed.
“Trust me, George,” mum laughed as she sat in the passenger seat. “She doesn’t mean it. Once she holds the baby in her hands she’ll love you more than she hates you right now. I was the exact same with Sammy and Jack.”
“No mum,” I cried. “I really do hate him.”
“Just shut up and save all your energy for this baby,” mum smiled to me.
The second George pulled the car into hospital mum got out and helped me get out. Michael had somehow managed to get to the hospital before us and was waiting by the entrance. “George, you go with Sammy and we’ll go park the car,” Michael said to George, opening up the driver’s door.

“Sammy,” the midwife smiled to me as she walked into the delivery room, holding onto a clipboard. “How are you feeling?”
“Like I can’t do it,” I cried in agony.
“George,” the midwife said, turning to George as he sat on the chair beside the door, looking at me with an emotionless facial expression across his face. “I need you to reassure her.”
George clicked into action and stood up, rushing over to the bed where I was laid in pain. “It’s going to be okay,” he grinned, holding onto my hand.
“How can you say that?” I asked, clutching onto his hand so hard he had to bite his lip to stop him crying in agony himself. “You don’t have King Kong shooting out of you!”
“It can’t be that bad..”
“No uterus, no opinion,” I screamed as another contraction happened.
*
“I think it’s time,” the midwife grinned to me, six hours after I got to the hospital.
“I’m not ready,” I sobbed to George as the midwife went out to get a doctor.
“You are,” George grinned. “We both are.”
“No, I’m not,” I cried. “You are, but I’m not. I can’t even look after myself, so what am I going to be like with a baby that actually depends on me?”
“Listen to me,” George said. “You can do this. We both can. This baby is going to love you so much. You’re going to be an amazing mum. Okay?”
Looking into George’s eyes, I could tell he really meant every word he was saying. I nodded as the midwife rushed back in, followed by a doctor. I looked over at the doctor, quite alarmed.
“It’s okay,” the midwife smiled to me. “He’s just here in the tiny little chance of something going wrong.”
“I love you,” George whispered as he put his hand on my baby bump. “And I love you.”
I was exhausted and the worst part was still to come. I gave a faint smile to George as the midwife looked at me. “Are you ready for this?” she smiled.
Reluctantly, I nodded.
*
“Good girl, Sammy,” the midwife grinned to me. “You’re nearly there, just one more push.”
“I can’t,” I pleaded, putting my head back onto the pillow with no energy left in me. “I can’t do it anymore.”
“I know it’s hard but it’s going to be so worth it in the end,” George beamed to me, putting his hand in my hand. “One more.”
“You owe me a baby,” I screamed as I began to push for one final time.
George laughed. His laugh was silenced though when a baby’s cry filled the room. I used the last bit of energy in me to look up.
“Congratulations,” the midwife smiled to me and George. “You have a beautiful and healthy baby girl.”
