Spencer paced around the apartment. One half was clean, the other half was a mess. This is Melissa's problem, not hers. But Melissa might need her.

"Oh my god," Spencer said out loud. The apartment was still empty, so nobody heard her. If Melissa really is pregnant, who is the father? Was it that Derek guy? Spencer hardly knew him, and now they're suddenly going to be in-laws?

Spencer jumped when the front door opened. It was Melissa, returning home from her lunch with Derek. "Hey, Spence," She said as her and her sister made eye contact, "I just had the best lunch with Derek. He's great." Melissa bragged. Spencer tried to act as casual as possible. She wanted to scream, but she kept the talking to a minimum.

Melissa continued on and on about how great Derek was, and how he was a med student. Spencer wasn't really paying any attention. All she could think about was what was possibly going on in Melissa's mind. How is she going to handle being a mother? Spencer tried not to worry too much. Derek seemed like a nice guy, and she knew very well that Melissa could take care of two people. After all, she took care of herself and Spencer for all this time. And of course, Melissa, being the perfect age of twenty-three, was old enough to have a baby of her own. The idea of Melissa having a baby warmed up to her. She knew Melissa would be a good mom.

----

Melissa and Spencer decided to order take-out for dinner. Melissa mentioned that she had been craving Chinese food all day. Pregnancy cravings. "So how are things going between you and Toby?" Melissa asked, taking a bite of her food.

"Whoa there, Melissa. Things between us have only lasted two days."

"And two nights!"

"Shut up," Spencer said, playfully pushing her sister, "but things are great. He's amazing."

"Spencer... I'm going to tell you something, and you have to promise me that you won't tell anyone. Not even Toby. Or mom and dad."

Spencer shifted a little in her seat. "Of course, Melissa. What's wrong?"

"Well, a few nights ago, I was at the Hollis Bar. That's where I met Derek." Melissa started. Spencer screamed on the inside. Is Melissa going to tell her about the baby now?

"I thought you were going to stay the night at Jennifer's house." Spencer told her, making sure Melissa didn't have any idea whatsoever about Spencer knowing about the baby.

"I kind of lied. I'm sorry," Melissa apologized, "I just found out that mom and dad were coming back, and I needed something to get me through the night."

Spencer nodded to let Melissa know that she understood.

"Anyways, I met Derek there and we started to talk. Things went well, until he had to leave."

Spencer was suddenly confused. Wasn't Derek supposed to be the father of Melissa's baby?

"Then I met this one guy. I don't really remember his name. Todd, I think. Or maybe Stephen, I don't know. I was really wasted, and I was willing to hook up with anyone, so we went home together."

"Oh my god, here?!"

"No, god no. We went to his place. But... We didn't use protection."

Spencer couldn't believe she was hearing this. Her grade A, perfect, star sister was pregnant by some guy she didn't even know.

"You're pregnant?" Spencer asked.

Melissa nodded. "That's why Derek was here. He knew what happened and he came to check on me."

"What does this mean?"

"I don't know." Melissa sounded horrified. Suddenly, she started crying. Spencer brought her in, letting her know that everything was going to be alright.
