"Spence, calm down." Toby said to me. I was freaking out so much, I was hyperventilating; and I was scaring both Toby and Valerie.
Toby motioned for me to take a deep breath. He handed Valerie to Hanna, who had been begging to hold Valerie all night, and took me outside.
"Baby, relax." Toby said to me.
How can I relax? Yvonne is stalking us.
"You're jumping to conclusions," Toby told me. "When I saw her the day after the wedding, she told me she wanted to get back on her feet. She's going to college here."
That doesn't explain why she's hellbent on being friends with me again. Or why Toby didn't tell me about this. If I had known Yvonne was living nearby, we wouldn't have moved.
"You know how I feel about her," I say, feeling the tears in my eyes begin to form.
"I do, and that's why I'm not going to let anything happen to you. Or Valerie." He said, giving me a kiss on my forehead.
We went back inside, and I saw that Hanna and Yvonne were mingling, and Yvonne was trying to make Valerie laugh. She was tickling her, and playing peek-a-boo, which I knew for sure Valerie hated. Every time I tried to play peek-a-boo with her, she got scared. But she didn't seem to be bothered by Yvonne. I shook off the uneasy feeling at the pit of my stomach and joined them.
And until later that night, there were no problems.

As I was changing Valerie that night, something was caught on her dress. It was like something had been stuck there. I ignored it, thinking it was just a part of the dress. I took it off of Valerie and changed her into her pajamas.
Valerie fell asleep almost an hour later, as I was reading her a story on the rocking chair Toby had made for us.
I put Valerie in her crib, then I proceeded to grab her dress from earlier, getting ready to have it washed. The dress felt a little heavier than it did when I first bought it. There was something about it that didn't seem right.
I examined the dress, and with lots of searching (and almost giving up), I found something.
It was a microphone.
-:-
Toby had left for a night shift a few minutes before. I didn't want to bother him, but this was an emergency.
Were there cameras too?
I was right all along. I shouldn't have trusted Yvonne.
I set the microphone on the kitchen counter and called Toby.
"Spencer? Is everything okay?" Toby said. I shouldn't be calling him, but I needed him.
"No. I think I found a microphone on Valerie's dress."
"What?!"
"Please come home. I really don't want to be right."
"I'm on my way."
Within ten minutes, Toby came home and told me to show him the microphone.
I'm not a cop or a detective, so I don't know how certain spy gadgets work, or how they are used. But I convinced myself that the thing on Valerie's dress was a microphone, and Yvonne had put it there.
Toby said a few things to his partner, and he called the sheriff. I didn't hear much, but I did hear one thing:
"We need a warrant for the arrest of Yvonne Reynolds."
