Chapter 22

College was fun. People liked Spencer. She made friends. Nobody made fun of her. She couldn't wait to call Melissa and tell her all about it.

As Spencer was walking down the halls, ready to go to her car, she bumped into a short brunette. The girl's coffee spilled a bit on the floor. "Oh my god! I'm so sorry!" Spencer said. The other girl, Spencer noticed that she had pretty hazel eyes, laughed a bit. "It's alright. I guess today's just not my day." The girl said. Spencer thought she had a gorgeous smile. "Do you want to go grab some lunch with me?" Spencer offered. She worried that she was being a bit too forward. "Sure!" The girl said.

The girl's name was Aria Montgomery. She was studying to become an English teacher. She just came back from Iceland. She lived in Rosewood prior to that, but they moved to Iceland for a year after her parents got divorced. They went to the grille, and Spencer was shocked to find Toby there. Aria got a table while Spencer went to talk to her boyfriend.

Spencer hid behind him, and then surprised him by wrapping her arms around his waist. "Hey, what are you doing here?" He asked, greeting her with a kiss. "I just came to grab some lunch with a friend." She explained, pointing at Aria, who was sitting in a table across the restaurant, "What about you?"

Toby explained that he was getting some lunch as well. He also mentioned that he had gotten a job. "That's awesome! What is it?" She asked.

"It's a construction job."

"That's awesome! Who's it for?"

Toby was silent.

Spencer asked again, "Toby? Who's the job for?"

"Spence, please don't be mad at me."

"Why would I be mad?"

"Because the job is for your parents."

Spencer was angry. But she didn't show it. She just used Aria as an excuse to get away from him.

"I have to go."

"Spence, I know you're mad, but-"

"No. I just... I have to go. Aria's waiting for me."

"Spencer..."

"I'll talk to you later."

Spencer left Toby to have her lunch with Aria.

"Hey, is everything okay?" Aria asked Spencer.

Spencer didn't make an effort to hide the disappointment in her eyes.
"I don't know."
