Finishing Valerie's room was our first priority. Toby decided he would surprise us with her room by doing everything himself. Including making the crib, painting the walls, and hanging the mobile. He was working so hard, he didn't even stop to eat. Or sleep.

"Finished!" He exclaimed two days later, as I was reading Valerie a story. It was late at night, and Valerie had just woken up for the first time that night... Followed by several other times.

"Let me see it!" I exclaimed, picking up Valerie. He then took us to her room, and I was amazed. Toby did a beautiful job. The walls were painted a soft lilac color, with clouds painted on as well. A rocking chair sat in the corner next to a changing station, and her crib sat in the other corner of the room, with a mobile of hot air balloons and clouds hovering over it.

"You made this all yourself?" I ask, completely amazed. Toby nodded, picking up Valerie and gently laying her down in the crib. I hadn't noticed that she was fast asleep now.

"You like it?" Toby asked.

"Like it? I love it! It's so beautiful." I say. I walk over to Toby and hug him.

"I think it's time for us to get some sleep, now." Toby said, pulling away. I turned on the baby monitor and we made our way downstairs.

Our things finally arrived, and I was ready to start my new job as a creative writing teacher, starting on Monday. Toby was working hard in architecture school, trying his best to graduate early. Day by day, it was starting to feel like home again.

A perfect, wonderful, blissful six months had passed.

Then disaster struck.
