Chapter 92

"She's finally asleep," I said when Toby appeared at the doorway of Claire's nursery.

"That's good," Toby said, taking Claire from me and putting her in her crib. He was just about to cover her with a blanket until I stopped him.

"No, no, no, she can't sleep with a blanket." I said, taking the blanket off our newborn.

"She's going to get cold." Toby asked.

"It's hazardous." I warned.

"How? I feel like it's more hazardous if she freezes." Toby almost yelled. I jumped when I heard him yell.

"She could suffocate! Toby, I know I'm acting crazy right now, but that's just because Claire was practically a miracle. I don't want to screw her up." I said. I felt a little relieved when I saw Toby start to calm down.

Toby held my hands and leaned in for a hug. "You're not crazy. And I'm sorry for getting angry and yelling."

"I'm sorry, too." I said, kissing the corner of his mouth.

Suddenly, we heard a knock followed by the doorbell at the front door.

Toby and I, now one kiss away from a full-on make out session, stopped when we heard the doorbell. "I'll get it," I offer and kiss my husband one more time.

As I made my way downstairs, the knocking continued, and it was as if the person on the other side was helpless. Like I was their only hope. But then, the knocking got louder and louder. I opened the door, and there she stood, in tears.

"Melissa?" I said, in complete shock, "What are you doing here?"

"The bank foreclosed on my house," She cried.

I said nothing. I leaned in for a hug, and she was soaking wet. I looked behind her, and it was pouring rain.

"Come inside." I said, then calling Toby to come downstairs.

"Is everything okay?" Toby asked, right before I gestured towards Melissa. I quietly explained everything to him, and I let him know that she needed a place to stay.

"I know you guys are busy with Claire and I hate bothering you like this, but you guys are all I have."

Without thinking, I said, "You can stay here as long as you need to."
