Chapter 19

"How are you feeling?" Melissa asked Spencer after Hanna left. Spencer was in the same position she had been in hours ago. She wanted to get up and stretch, but her broken leg had forced her to stay put.

"I feel a little bit better... I just wish I could get up. I've been wearing these sweats for the last three days, and they're starting to cling to my skin. And I haven't showered. I smell like garbage."

"Here, I'll help you up." Melissa stood in front of Spencer and held her arms out.

"No, Melissa. I don't want you or the baby to get hurt."

"I can handle it."

Spencer grabbed her sister's hands, and she got up and into her wheelchair. The pain was terrible, but she was glad to be in a spot other than the couch.

After her shower, Spencer felt clean. She was so glad to finally smell like soap, and not garbage. Her hair wasn't in knots anymore, and she changed into a pair of jeans and one of her favorite shirts, of course, with Melissa's help. "Wait, jeans? Where are you going?" Melissa asked. She clearly did not want to go anywhere, but Spencer was going to drag her somewhere anyways. "We are going college hunting." Spencer said. Melissa widened her eyes. Spencer wheeled to the front door.

"I've been thinking lately, and I want to go back to school. And I can't really go back to Rosewood High anymore, so I thought, why not college?"

"Spencer, I'm so proud of you for making this decision, but can we do this later? Like, when I'm not looking like a mess?"

"Please, Melissa? I already asked Hanna and she isn't able to. And I don't want to bug Toby any more than I already have. He was nice enough to stay with me for three hours. He deserves a break. Pleaaasssseeee?" Spencer begged.

Melissa thought it over. She thought about how much Spencer had given up. This was something Spencer wanted. Spencer never asks for much. She doesn't just want this, she needs this.

"Give me two minutes. I'm going to get ready." Melissa finally agreed.

Melissa felt so happy when she saw the smile that appeared on Spencer's face.
