-2 weeks later-
Toby visited Spencer every day since the accident. She spent most of her days sleeping, and Toby didn't mind. He loved the way she looked. She was so peaceful. He watched her chest rise up and down as she breathed. She was wearing the glasses she had ditched long ago. She was cuddled next to a giant stuffed bear her sister had given her while she was in the hospital. She wasn't wearing any makeup, and she was sure she had looked even worse due to the medications she had been on. Her leg was in a cast, and it was resting upon a pillow. Her wheelchair was sat next to her bed/ the couch, in case she needed it.
Toby noticed how beautiful she looked. He leaned in and kissed her temple. This caused her to wake up. She rubbed her eyes.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you up."
"It's fine. How long have you been here?"
"A few hours. I came in when Melissa left for an appointment. Why didn't you tell me that she's pregnant?"
"She didn't want me to tell anyone. I'm sorry."
Toby pushed a few strands of Spencer's hair behind her ear. "It's fine. How are you feeling?"
"I feel like shit."
"Well, if it makes up for anything, you look beautiful."
"Thanks for trying to make me feel better."
They both looked into each other's eyes. They both thought the same thing.
I love you.
Toby wanted to say it, he just couldn't build up the courage to say it. Instead, he leaned in to kiss her. Their lips almost met, until there was a knock at the door.
"Could you get that, please?" Spencer asked.
"Of course." Toby said and kissed her quickly. He wasn't going to let someone at the door prevent them from kissing.
He got up and answered the door. He was greeted by a blonde girl, probably Spencer's age, on the other side. "Hi, uh, does Spencer Hastings live here?" She asked. "She does. Who are you?" Toby asked.
"My name is Hanna. I don't think Spencer knows me, but I know her. Can I come in?"
Spencer recognized the voice as soon as she heard it. It brought back terrible memories.
"Have your boobs come in yet?"
"Hey four eyes!"
"What a loser!"
This girl harassed her. She told her things that made her want to end her life. She made her feel worthless, in the one place she thought she would be safe.
"Toby, can you give us a minute alone?" Spencer asked.
"Of course. Actually, I think I'm gonna go home. I've been here for a while." Toby said.
"Alright. Bye." Spencer said and leaned in for a quick kiss.
----
"Why are you here? To make fun of me? To tell me I deserved to be in that crash?"
"No. Actually, I came here to apologize."
Spencer was shocked. Hanna came all this way to apologize?
"I said some pretty nasty things about you. I did things that I really regret doing."
"Why now?"
"I visited you in the hospital. You were asleep, and your sister wasn't there. I kind of lied and told them I was your cousin. But I saw how hurt you were. It made me feel awful. Suddenly, every terrible thing I ever told you came back and I felt like a... a..."
"A bitch?" Spencer finished. Hanna nodded.
"Yeah. Like a total bitch."
Spencer was silent. She waited on Hanna to say something.
"Look, I don't expect you to forgive me, and I really don't expect you to want to be my friend or anything. But, I wanted you to know that I am really, truly sorry. For everything."
Spencer sat up, feeling a pain in her leg. She ignored it. She opened her arms to bring Hanna in for a hug.
Hanna was about to leave, when Spencer stopped her. "Wait. My sister's going to be gone all day. I really don't want to be alone. Besides, I'll be sitting here all day, we don't have a TV, and I can't really get up without help. Do you mind staying?" Spencer asked.
It didn't take Hanna more than two seconds to make up her mind. "Sure." She said, smiling at Spencer.
Spencer and Hanna spent hours together. They seemed to have a lot in common. They liked how happy they made each other feel. They exchanged numbers, and Hanna left when Melissa returned home.
It seemed to Spencer that Hanna Marin was her new best friend.
