Toby was shot in his left shoulder. I was so glad he was alright.
When I saw him on the hospital bed, I ran to him and I hugged him. He's alright. He's fine. I'm so glad he's fine.
As I hugged him, I remembered how much pain he must be in. I quickly let go, hoping I didn't hurt him too much.
"I told you I'm alright." Toby said.
"I didn't believe you," I say, "you never admit when you're hurt."
He shuffles uncomfortably in the bed, but I sit down next to him and place my hand on his.
"It's okay if you're hurting. You can tell me."
"I'm not going to admit it."
"Why not?"
"Because I-" he stops himself from saying anything else.
"Because what?" I ask, growing more and more impatient.
"Because I'm not as strong as you." He admits. It shocks me.
I'm not strong. I'm everything but strong.
"I'm not-"
"You may not think so, but you are." He says, grabbing my hand, "you are the strongest person I've ever known. You don't let anyone get to you. You're patient. You're loving, and caring and accepting."
"That doesn't make me strong."
"Spencer, you need to believe me. You are. Being shot today made me realize how important you are. You're so special, and I can't believe I almost lost you today. You're my rock, and I'm not going to let anything- or anyone- come between us. Babe, I'm ready."
"Ready for what?" I ask.
"I'm ready to get married."

I lay on top of him, being mindful of his shoulder. We passionately kissed for what felt like hours. Toby sat up, and I tried to help him, but of course, he didn't want any help.
"Wait," Toby says, getting up from the couch and retrieving something from the bedroom. It was small enough to where I couldn't see it until he showed me.
"Right before my mom died," he said, holding something in his clenched hand, "she gave me this. She told me to give it to a girl who deserved it. A really, really special girl." He opened his hand, revealing an engagement ring.
"This was your mother's?" I ask in disbelief. It was the most beautiful ring I had ever seen.
Toby nods and grabs my hand.
"Spencer, I love you. So much. You're the best thing that has ever happened to me. I want to have kids with you, I want to grow old with you. I don't know where I would be without you." he slowly slides the beautiful ring onto my finger, "Will you marry me?"
I nod my head and smile, automatically leaning in to kiss him. I giggle in between kisses.
"I'm guessing that's a yes?" Toby asks as he pulls away.
I laugh. "Yes! Of course, yes! A million times yes!" I say and kiss him over and over again.
