It was a peaceful kind of silence as Mapi got ready for bed that night, stood in front of the mirror in the bathroom as she flossed and brushed her teeth.
Alexia was sat on Leila's bed speaking to her sister over the phone, the two of them talking in fast and unguarded Catalan, involving a lot of lighthearted laughs and the sound of Alexia simply being very happy.
The sound of her laugh did make Mapi smile, because the Euros came with difficult memories for Alexia that were clearly not dampening her spirits now.
Alexia carried on speaking to Alba until Mapi was finished in the bathroom, looking up with a growing smile when she saw the centre back renter the room. "Alba, I have to go."
Mapi made her way to her own bed, reaching for her phone which naturally had a few messages from Kaia, her mother and a few friends who watched their win over Belgium.
"I'll go get ready for bed." Alexia announces.
"Ok." Mapi acknowledges, climbing into bed and smiling thankfully at Alexia for her presence tonight.
Feeling like an utter child, Mapi then opened her wife's messages and hovered her thumbs over the screen, debating how and what to say to explain the situation she was in.

Cuore Mio❤️: Alexia's staying with me tonight
The reply came almost immediately, soft and caring.
Mi Vida😍: are you ok?
Cuore Mio❤️: I'm completely fine, don't worry
Cuore Mio❤️: just thought a little spooning wouldn't hurt
Mi Vida😍: oh, I see...
Mapi laughs softly, slowly gaining her confidence back. She doesn't know why she's nervous about the idea of Alexia being in her bed.
Maybe she was just worried Kaia would feel left out or hard done by.
Mi Vida😍: you were both very attractive when you linked up on the pitch
Cuore Mio❤️: is Fabian asleep?

The image that came through was in fact a picture of Fabian wide awake, lying next to Kaia in bed wearing his Star Wars pyjamas and smiling at the phone with a milk covered mouth and rosy cheeks.
Cuore Mio❤️: maybe I'll message you later then
Mi Vida😍: you cruel woman. You better give me something good
Cuore Mio❤️: good?
Mi Vida😍: only if you want it yourself
Cuore Mio❤️: I think I do want it
Mi Vida😍: show her what you can do, gorgeous. Then show me afterwards😏
