Another day, another door in the advent calendar to open.
Mapi definitely got the most excited about it, but Kaia would be lying if she said she wasn't also filled with mild anticipation every time she heard the cardboard seal breaking.
"Look what we have today." Mapi chuckles while testing the strength of the fluffy handcuffs she's holding. "Red; your favourite colour on me."
"Are you offering to wear them tonight?" Kaia teases, leaning up out of bed to take them from her wife.
"Only," Mapi holds a finger up. "Only if you wear dark green lingerie; the one I bought you for our anniversary." She negotiates.
Kaia laughs and tries to urge Fabian's attention back towards his interactive book in the middle of the bed. "We're really getting into the Christmas spirit, aren't we?"
Mapi hums and lowers her body onto Kaia above the duvet, resting her head on the brunette's covered chest as she watches Fabian smack the crunchy material in his book. "We need to be in the Christmas spirit today, since we have trees to decorate."
Kaia sighs, mainly at the inevitable smashing of their expensive baubles. She can already hear them hitting the hardwood floor in the living room. "Just make sure the glass baubles are out of his reach."
"Absolutely." Mapi agrees softly, not blaming Kaia for being worried about that. They were sentimental, but also made from fine glass that'll shatter into dust; not something they want their six and a half month old near. "He doesn't explore much in the living room anyway, we'll just have to move the cat bed away from the fireplace so he isn't tempted to crawl over."
"Mmm." Fabian hums with a pursed lip smile, crawling up Kaia's shoulder to push his face into Mapi's neck; possibly asking for a hug.
Mapi's arm naturally wraps around his little body, supporting him in his wriggling up onto Kaia's chest alongside her. "Are you excited to help decorate today? To see all the lights once the sun is gone?" She whispers to him happily.
"I think he's going to love it." Kaia hums happily, her hand running through Mapi's hair gently as she watches them both.
Soon enough, they were all up out of bed and Kaia was in the attic deciding which boxes they were bringing down; her and Mapi ferrying them down the stairs while juggling watching Fabian.
Thankfully their attic was fully plastered and had no exposed insulation; it was a room like any other, so Fabian could sit in the armchair from their old flat and watch Kaia debate which decorations to bring down first.
They'd donated some of their old decorations to the children's hospital, choosing to buy a whole new range for all the unique areas of the house; measured berried garlands down the bottom of the banisters and above the kitchen units, a wreath for the front door and so much more.
But they still had the box of irreplaceable decorations, mainly those baubles or family ornaments they wanted to keep forever.
"How's downstairs looking?" Kaia asks when she hears Mapi walk back up the stairs, a homemade purée pouch in her hand to feed Fabian.
"Like a mess." Mapi chuckles, squatting in front of Fabian to feed him his sweet potato purée. "An organised mess though, I've put the old bauble box in the kitchen for that tree. "
Fabian suckles on the pouch happily, his eyes still zoned in on Kaia over Mapi's shoulder but his hands were feeling Mapi's face, the softness of her skin.
"I think that's good enough for now." Kaia decides, scanning the empty spaces boxes once occupied. "Do you want to turn a movie on for him while we get to decorating?" She suggests.
