A week before Fabian turned six months old, they had another routine appointment with the paediatrician.

It was all the basic health checks: checking his height and weight, examining his eyes, skin, ears, heart, mouth and lungs while they answer questions on when and how he sleeps, how many times he relives and exerts himself in a 24 hour period and more.

But the one thing they had been waiting for was finally said at the end of the appointment; as of tomorrow he was ready for food to be introduced and begin the weaning process away from a full milk diet.

Kaia's nutritional mind had already kicked into overdrive, she had researched the best foods to begin with and recipes that babies find easiest to eat; banana and pea purées, cinnamon oat pancakes, meat fritters and more.

Her and Mapi both agreed early on that they would never give Fabian any form of 'baby food' from the supermarket. Most were full of various preservatives, oils and added sugars that weren't necessary.

Plus making food was such a staple of their life that it would be much easier this way, he'd just mostly eat what they did in mush or soft patty form for these next few months.

In fact, the idea of cooking for Fabian brought Kaia a similar joy to when she cooks for Mapi. It was her love language, seeing the people she loves enjoying her food and the benefits of a nutritional and varied diet.

On the morning of day one, Fabian had his usual bottle of milk at 7am as Mapi and Kaia both did hydration and stretches to prepare themselves for today's training.

Then they went to the kitchen and began on breakfast, but instead of letting Fabian play on the soft mat by the patio doors as they ate, Mapi strapped him into his highchair and put him on the corner between her and Kaia's seats at the breakfast table.

Fabian was more than ok with this because he loved watching them eat, but then Mapi put a silicone bib on him which had never happened before, and then he had his own plate placed in front of him, split into three sections with only two of them filled today.

"Oo!" Fabian puckers his lips in excitement and immediately reaches for the small slice of avocado, squishing it between his fingers in interest.

"In your mouth." Mapi chuckles as she breaks her egg for the yolk to flow out over her avocado toast. "It goes in your mouth, like this..." she picks up the soft spoon from Fabian's table and guides some of the mashed avocado towards his mouth.

Kaia lowers her coffee from her lips to film him eating for the first time, chuckling when he presses his lips into a thin line when he gets a first taste, but then he licks his lips to get the mush off and looks at Mapi in what seems like genuine shock.

"It's good, right?" Mapi chuckles, still hovering the spoon at his lips. "Open your mouth." She opens her own mouth so he mimics it.

Fabian opens his mouth wide, staring at Mapi while allowing her to put the spoon in and let him take the avocado off.

"Well done, Fabian." Kaia praises when she sees the clean spoon in Mapi's hand. Yet she spoke too soon, because Fabian grimaces and uses his hand to scrape all the green mush off his tongue which slops into the bib food pocket around his neck. "Oh, that was lovely..." she decides to end the video there.

"What about some eggs?" Mapi suggests, only pointing to the scrambled egg since they were trying to get Fabian confident with feeding himself.

Fabian slaps the eggs, almost flipping his plate in the process before bringing his hand to his mouth to lick the mixture of avocado and egg mush off his fingers.
