After a week of training in Madrid, Spain were landing and being welcomed to their hotel in Switzerland, equipped with all the amenities they'll ever need and overlooking a beautiful view.
Mapi had Fabian with her, his hair freshly cut into a modern mullet everyone was still going mushy over.
Kaia had cried when he got his haircut, because he honestly looked like a little boy now and not a baby.
While all of Mapi's teammates couldn't stop playing with his curls when he was near, telling him he looked adorable to which he just smiled to.
Mapi made sure his curl cream was applied perfectly each morning.
No one, not a single soul other than Alexia knew what had happened. The scratches on her face was simply assumed to be from Fabian and his need to grab Mapi like she might disappear, whilst the arrest seemed to have stayed out of the news so far.
So Mapi felt, now in Switzerland with a very important competition ahead of her, like she could close the book on that scarring chapter and move on.
The best way was to allow Fabian (with Kaia's permission as well) to get dressed into a full Spanish home kit and wander into the sports hall of their training complex.
"Hola Fabian." Lola greets the small boy.
"Hi." Fabian replies, his eyes still searching for people he trusted other than his mamá who was stood right behind him.
But soon enough, Patri appears and lifts him up into her arms. "Look at you!" She says excitedly. "Our little mascot."
Fabian giggles shyly, happily resting his cheek on Patri's shoulder. "I stay." He informs his mamá.
"Chiquito, you can't be clung to Patri like a koala all day." Mapi teases softly. "We need you for a photoshoot."
"Kaia's going to go crazy over those pictures." Jenni chuckles, tugging Fabian's shorts up a little.
"You know England's media team is going to have him straight in an England kit once he gets there." Misa points out.
"Which is why we get in there now and let everyone know he is Spanish first." Mapi reasons simply.
"Oh please," Leila laughs. "Don't act like you don't both have England shirts stashed away in your bags."
