AN: so happy for Leah's goal last night v South Africa, she needed that👏
𑁍
January was very busy for multiple reasons, in football but also personally.
Kaia and Mapi had three very important things to do alongside playing league, Champions League and cup matches. And now, that also included an unplanned trip to Monaco for Kaia.
So the moment they got home and got into bed with their two cats at their feet, Mapi began to knead the tense muscles on the back of Kaia's neck and shoulders.
They'd ordered in for dinner because of how tired they were, and Kaia didn't fight the massage and instead welcomed it with a groan of delight, her face shoved into her pillow and more than happy to be home.
Mapi carried on the massage, sat up cross legged on her side of the bed with her eyes drooping as sleep threatened to take her over. But she refused to stop until Kaia was sound asleep, until she was totally relaxed and peaceful.
Then Mapi was knocked out within minutes, flat on her stomach and snoring which she only does when she's extremely sleep deprived.
Neither of them stirred until their alarms went off the next morning, making them both groan in annoyance and refuse to move for a good while.
But eventually Kaia forced herself up and tried not to disturb Bagheera who had curled between her legs in the night. She went straight into the kitchen to prepare breakfast, and while it was cooking she went back to brush her teeth and have a shower.
Mapi joined her in the shower while refusing to open her eyes. The water slowly woke her up and made her feel refreshed, as did the familiarity of their bathroom and being back to their daily lives.
She definitely missed Spain a lot, she missed Barcelona. But she mainly missed their bed and their cats, two things she snuggled in or with last night to give her the energy she needs for today's training.
They had a game on the 6th against Las Planas, it was only three days away and then Kaia would go to Monaco before they have the Copa de la Reina and Supercopa knockouts; the last one against Real Madrid.
"I'm thinking after our game in the league, I'll ask Jonatan if we can miss the match after our wedding." Mapi says as they enter the main entrance from the carpark. "We need to finalise our honeymoon as soon as possible, and yes our league position is at risk, but as long as these next few months go good..."
"No, I agree." Kaia reassures the Spaniard. "I think we'll need a few days to come to terms with the fact we're married, and to recover from our hangovers, so we'll be no use to the team anyway." She chuckles.
Mapi smiles along, loving listening to her fiancé's laugh in the morning. But as she opens the changing room door for Kaia to enter first, they come face to face with the one person she was really wishing wasn't here yet.
Mariona.
Kaia couldn't help it, all the light happiness drained from her face and she stared daggers at the woman who caused her best friend to be crying into her shoulder two weeks ago.
And what made it worse was the group of changing footballers behind Mariona who glanced over curiously to see who was entering. They all saw the uncharacteristic look on Kaia's face, and the unconscious grimace Mapi gave told everyone there was definitely tension.
Realisation was quick to fill Mariona's features. At first her eyes were wide in worry and anticipation, but now she knew Kaia knew practically everything.
