Thankfully Grace was calm enough and on enough painkillers to let her husband leave her side, to let James pop out into the waiting room and explain to Mapi and Kaia was happening.

Fabian tried to follow James back into the room a few times, but Mapi grabbed him just in time and told him they needed to wait a little longer.

Kaia was restless as she tried to listen to the surgeons talking, wondering what stage they were at and if the babies were still breathing normally and were healthy.

This mornings checks were perfect for Grace and both babies, but the boy was also being pressed into Grace's ribs because of the positioning and therefore needed to be born sooner rather than later.

If they had waited for a natural birth, it would've been in another fortnight or so which would allow for more time to grow.

But growing in a confined space would threaten their lives more, it was better now despite them saying the boy was very small.

Both Kaia and Mapi prayed for him not to be premature, they really hoped they could bring him home instead of him having to live in the NICU until he was strong enough without the support.

"She's here, she's here." James rushes out, an awed look on his face most likely for his wife's heroics. "She's bloody massive for a twin."

"How big?" Mapi shoots to her feet, peering into the room where all she could see was a blue curtain.

"5 pounds, 6 ounces." James answers.

Kaia blinks in shock, hearing the baby start to wail from the theatre. "She's heavier than Fabian was when he was born." She realises.

Mapi looks down to Kaia who was still sat down, both of them itching to meet their daughter.

But they couldn't, not when James was fully scrubbed up just to be at Grace's side and they had a messy toddler with them.

"Did she come out ok?" Kaia asks, picking Fabian up as she stands.

"No cuts from the incision." James assures first, knowing that was one of Kaia's many worries. "They said it's relieved a lot of pressure on him, he's moved down now."

"Tell Grace she is incredible." Mapi requests, shaking her head at what was actually happening.

How did they causally have a daughter now and were waiting for their next son?

"Mami." Fabian pouts at Kaia, having gotten a little bored now they had been here a whole hour. "Casa, me." He requests. "Albie, Hera..."

"We can see the cats in a few days." Mapi turns and takes Fabian's little face in her hands, placing a loving kiss on his forehead. "We're waiting for your baby brother now."

"Mami," Fabian's eyelids flutter as he turns back to Kaia with a certain sassy look. "I go." He says while straightening his legs.

"No, baby." Kaia chuckles at his behaviour, holding his body that little bit tighter. "We need to wait for the babies."

"Babies." Fabian whispers, lying his head on Kaia's shoulder as he examines his Hot Wheels.

Inside the theatre, the midwife had already laid the little girl on Grace's chest to calm them both down, to help regulate the baby now she was outside of the womb and reassure Grace that everything was going ok.

James had half the mind to take the baby out to show Mapi and Kaia who were only ten or so feet away, but he knew that would not be ok with the surgeons flawlessly helping the smaller boy out and cutting his umbilical cord.
