There was quite the drop in temperature between Spain and England, meaning both Kaia and Fabian were wearing layers as they got off the plane and took a private car straight to St. George's Park.
Fabian was well and truly at the babbling stage, speaking his own little language to the driver and calling out 'ma!' every time he wanted Kaia's attention, or some snacks from the front of her bag.
He loved car journeys, but he loved moving around a lot more. So when Kaia stood him behind on the pavement for only a brief second, she barely had a chance to grab their bags before he was bolting off down the wide path.
"Fabian!" Kaia shouts, her head shooting up to see he was running towards Alessia who had crouched down and opened her arms for him to collide with her.
But at the sound of his mother's voice, Fabian freezes, his fist clench in worry and his lips part into an 'o' shape while he still stares at Alessia.
"Uh oh..." Alessia gives a gentle amused grimace back, but she could see Kaia's shoulders relaxing, and she could also see the amount of bags the brunette was holding.
"Go on." Kaia encourages softly, closing the sliding door to the minivan. "Go to Lessi."
Fabian carries on his tottering run and wraps his arms around Alessia who stands once she's got ahold of him.
And as he's lifted off the floor, Kaia sees the greyish marks on the bottom of his white socks. It's her own fault really for putting him on the floor to begin with, or for dressing such a chaotic child in easily stained clothes.
"Sei così coccoloso. (You're so cuddly.)" Alessia hugs the boy in her arms, her Italian flawless despite only really speaking it to Kaia nowadays.
"Sì." Fabian replies confidently, nodding once to really sell his agreement. "Mami." He pokes Kaia in the cheek once she's at their side.
"Is this your mami?" Alessia asks softly.
"Mamá... donnie?" Fabian wonders towards Kaia with a slight frown.
Kaia tries not to laugh lovingly. "Dónde. (Where.)" She corrects. "Mamá is at home, we'll see her soon." She promises, stroking his back softly.
"Is he ok with being away from her?" Alessia asks curiously.
"Um..." Kaia tilts her head in contemplation. "It comes and goes, sometimes he's super clingy to both of us and others he's fine being away as long as he's with one of us."
And right now, it was clearly the second option since Fabian was fiddling with the aglet on the drawstring of Alessia's hoodie, his eyes crossed as he concentrates on it fully.
"He is you to a T." Alessia laughs softly.
Kaia rolls her eyes fondly, but she always loved the comparisons. "I do not pout like that."
"Wa wa?" Fabian lifts his head calmly, blinking to his mother like he knows he's cute.
Kaia blindly reaches for her own quencher in the bag on her back, lifting the plastic straw up towards Fabian's mouth. "Here you go."
"I'd say he's a real child already but I've never seen him wear shoes." Alessia teases, aiding Fabian in leaning over for his drink.
Kaia gives Alessia a look and a slight smirk, like it's a hefty conversation she's already had with her wife. "Don't start." She jokes.
