Math already sucked

Next class I went to was Math. I noticed a few peoples stares follow me down the hall and I hoped that it was simply because I was a freshman, not because of the door incident. I walked into the Algebra room and looked around for a seat, or a familiar face. Unfortunately, I saw one immediately.

"Hey, baby sis!" my brother Dylan yelled at me from across the room. Yep, apparently Dylan had failed Geometry three times before so decided to give it another shot his senior year. Lucky me.

I groaned and looked at the floor. The only open seat was by Dylan. The others had broken chairs, gum or writing on them, or people sitting there.

He noticed and called out "What, you don't want to hang out with your favorite big brother?" teasingly.

People in the room began to watch as I walked over and begrudgingly sat in the desk. He leaned away from some other girls conversations with him abruptly and whispered to me, "This class is going to be so. much. fun!" evilly. Then he placed an arm around me and tried to turn us towards the rest of the class.

"WHAT are you DOING?" I hissed quietly at him. he chucked and forced me to turn, pushing with his strength.

"Just so y'all know," he said loudly with a vicious smile, "this is my little sister, and she is off limits to any guy. EVER. If anyone tries to test that, they're gonna have to go through me." he said, slightly flexing his muscles and straightening up to his full stature. "Also, it's not like you'd really want her. I mean, she's a Freshman and is still afraid of the dark. " he said, laughing, while I struggled to escape.

Most of the people in the class just chuckled  but as I looked around, I noticed some of the guys were backing up a little or looking down. Others were laughing a lot in a pitying way.

I finally ripped myself out of his grip and faced the front of the room but it was too late. The damage had been done.

"DYLAN? How could you???" I hissed when everyone finally looked away.

"Are you crying?" he asked with a smile, almost laughing.

"No!" I protested, looking away just in case. I mean, it was my first day and I was already embarrassed enough! "But seriously, what WAS that?" I demanded.

"Just trying to remind you of your place, baby." he said, going back to talk to the girls.

"Don't call me that." I whispered before he turned away.

Finally, the teacher, an old balding man, walked in and introduced himself as Mr. Palmer. He told us all about him, and then asked if anyone would like to say anything about themselves.

"Dakota would." said one mean girl who was talking to Dylan, obviously she was still mad about being ignored for a minute.

"Dakota?" my teacher asked, looking at me.

I thought about just saying no and staying quiet. Then, I thought about how much of a jerk Dylan was.

"Yes, I'd like to share something about myself." I said, rising. Mr. Palmer nodded in my direction and I said "Hi everyone, my name is Dakota and I have a brother who is an asshole. Also, he will be repeating this class for the third time now! In his SENIOR year!" I said, gesturing smugly towards Dylan like a tour guide. I sat down, smiling while the class laughed around me. Mr. Palmer, who couldn't really hear me because of his partial deafness, nodded and went on.

Dylans eyes glowed furiously and as Mr. Palmer began the lesson, he leaned over to me and whispered "You. Are. SO. Dead!" I smiled wider and wider as he fumed until the bell rang.
