Cold weather sucks

The next day after school I met Dylan outside my Biology class and we walked over to the guys locker room.

I leaned my head in through the door at an angle. Even though it would definitely be empty except for my coach, it still felt weird. Dylan shoved me from behind in through the door and said "Just introduce me, Kota. Stop being weird."

I frowned at him but walked inside hesitantly and went over to the office section. I knocked on the door three times then heard a "Oh! Please come in."

I inched the door open slowly until in one shove Dylan forced it open and I tumbled inside. I regained my balance and stood up in front of the coach.

"Hi Coach! Ummm... This is my brother, Dylan. He's applying for assistant coach."

James turned with a smile to my brother and stuck out a hand. Dylan grasped his in a perfect handshake and smiled in a not at all Dylan, respectful kind of way.

"Hi, it's really nice to meet you." Dylan said.

I looked at him with a minor face of huge shock. I didn't know he knew how to be nice.

"Same to you!" Coach said. "Your baby sister here is very good! I'm assuming you trained her?"

"Younger sister*." I muttered under my breath.

"Yes, I've helped work with her a lot over the years!" he said before launching into a job interview-like pitch.

After a couple minutes of me awkwardly standing there Coach said "Well, I love what I see Dylan! Were about the same age and you seem like an awesome guy and coach! Welcome to the team!"

I high fived Dylan half heartedly and turned to James. "Are you sure?"  I double checked desperately.

James laughed and Dylan smacked the back of my head the second he turned away tog ran his clipboard..

"It's a good thing, Dakota." James said. "Now you automatically get on the team, even though I'm sure your skills would've gotten you on for sure anyways."

"Okay, great!" I said, actually happy now. I had made it on the team! And James noticed my skill!

James said "But Dylan, I'm afraid I have to ask that you don't show any favoritism towards your sister. I know you probably won't but its just a precaution."

I laughed out loud and just couldn't stop. DYLAN? Show favoritism towards ME

Dylan shot me a "Shut up right now." look and ruffled my hair playfully.

"That won't be an issue." he said with a deceiving smile.

I glared as I straightened it and pushed it back into place.

We waved goodbye and left the locker room before I left Dylan to go into the girls locker room to change.

I walked over to Reilly and fake punched her on the arm.

"Thanks Reilly." I said teasingly.

She spun towards me and said "Dylan is the assistant captain?"

I nodded and she said "Yay! Now we just have to get on the team and then he'll train us!"

I nodded again to avoid awkward conversation and finished pulling on my gear before we went outside. As I stepped out of the locker room I felt a small chill from the wind and Dylan, who was waiting outside, said "Why don't you go pull on a jacket Kota?"

Since my friends were nearby and I didn't want to seem like I was being babied I said "I'm good, thanks." and kept walking. However, he grabbed the back of my jersey and pulled me back before I got far.
