The next day I got up early to try to dress better than yesterday. I actually did my makeup today and I was feeling pretty stylish. I also had time to eat an actual breakfast and I was in the car second only to Blake.
After we got to school, however, I realized it was going to rain. And I was wearing tight skinny jeans and a tank top, no jacket. We got out of the car and Blake realized the problem.
"Kota! Come on, you forgot a jacket?" Blake said.
"Don't worry. I'll be inside all day." I lied, spotting Luke and waving goodbye to Blake. I walked to Luke and he was immediately concerned too. But I dissuaded him the same way I did Blake. I rubbed my arms, trying to make the goosebumps shrink back down but it was no use.
I went to my first class shivering and when my English teacher took attendance, I stuttered my name.
In Art, my friends only helped by saying at least I looked attractive. But, it was during Art when the rain actually began to pour. I ran over to math feeling as if a fountain was pouring directly onto me, and me alone.
I got to the door and wrung my hair out, literally. It now hung in wavy dark strands and dripped down my back. Kinda lost the whole "super model" vibe I was going for.
I got inside the room and shuffled over to my seat, trying not to squeak my shoes along the ground. I sat in my seat and Dylan walked in, followed by Chris, per usual.
They sat in their regular seats and Mr. Palmer told the class to get out their homework.
Dylan just pulled out his cell phone to text someone, but Chris actually pulled out a piece of paper. I smiled and glanced over at it. Although, there were many drawings in the margins, most of the answers did actually look correct.
"I'm impressed." I said, nodding to his paper.
"Thanks, doll face." he smirked. "I actually -" He looked up at me. "Oh my god, Dakota, what are you wearing?"
"I thought it was cute." I said with a small smile.
"It probably was, before it got drenched." he whispered with a chuckle, as Mr. Palmer finished checking the homework.
"Aren't you cold?" he added.
"No!" I said. Then I involuntarily shivered. He looked at me knowingly and I admitted in a whisper "Freezing."
He pulled his dark gray hoodie over his head and threw it to me.
"No, I-"
"Take it." he said with a steely gaze. I nodded and gratefully pulled it over my head. It was 10 times too large for me but completely surrounded me in warmth. I leaned back comfortably in my nest and then the scent hit me. Chris's delicious cologne wafted from the jacket and I inhaled deeply, sighing.
It must've been a bit loud though, because Dylan turned from in front of me and looked confused. He said "Stop being weird, freak." I blushed. Ok, that was my fault.
I turned casually to see if Chris had noticed and I saw him looking at me, trying to keep from laughing. I didn't know if it was because of what Dylan said or just me but either way I popped up the hood and put it over me to protect my burning face. I stayed in my warm home until the bell rang and I started to remove the jacket I had grown used to. Chris grabbed my arm and stopped me.
"What are you doing?" he said.
"Giving you back your jacket?"
"No, you're not. It's freezing outside, you said it yourself." he said. "Keep it."
